Today I went to LHMC hospital with my mother to get treatment for a lesion on her hand. Everything went well until we went for the procedure unit to get the minor procedure done. They carried the entire process very neglegently. In between mom was fainting and it was then that they called me in to serve her water.
Instance 1:
I observed the two doctors debating amongst themselves (doc 1: You should have asked the patient if she was fine with this; doc 2: (Nodding in her agreement ) ) .
Instance 2:
The four docs started discussion about the procedure.one of them asking them why we use mask and other theoretical questions.I felt helpless seeing them treating my mom as some object while she was still kept fainting on intervals. And I had to gulp in all my anguish just bcuz they were treating mom and were in between of removing one critical lesion wherein she was so much in pain.
Instance 3:
As much as I might have tried to control my burning anger for their childish behaviour, I couldn't help myself and still very humbly but strategically I asked them this question (so that they could get an idea of my disappointment)
Me: Does this procedure require more time on patient. Could it be done faster ?
Doc : This procedure takes this much time only. Also, do you think I would intentionally forlong the process, I have so many patients lined up[I kept listening, didn't say a word]
Doc : You can wait outside .
[I quietly walked out of the room, My mom was still undergoing the procedure, what could have I done or said ]
This was when I was outside again .
Finally, when my mom came out . Her hand looked fine and everything (just little bit of pain ).But, I wonder and really wonder they could have done this better(I'm no doctor to judge them but a human being who can catch instincts )
What happened today deeply pained me .
In my heart I've decided to never visit that place again. However, I would be unfortunately visiting once more for follow -up regarding the procedure.Just in order to finish what begun, I'll be going but not wholeheartedly, a must mention.
