Re : My Husband – Amit Jhunjhunwala (Admission no: [protected])
Doctor : Goutam Majumdar
Date of admission: 14 May

This is to bring to your kind attention that, I had visited Dr. Goutam Majumdar on 12 May at your hospital along with my husband. His blood serum creatinine count on 7th May was 7.7 mg. Dr. Majumdar advised us that his kidney was not functioning and needs to be dialysed. He mentioned to us that he has a Chronic Kidney Disease- Stage V. The root cause of the same according to him was adverse effect of diabetes and some anti-nephro drugs. However he gave some medicines for a week and repeat tests.

Interim we again did a blood test on 13 May and where by the serum creatinine count has increased to 13.3 mg. We called up Dr. Majumdar and he advised us to admit my husband into your hospital immediately. We admitted him next day on 14th May and he had done dialysis on 14th May, 15th May and 16th May. After 3 dailysis the doctor has asked the hospital staff to repeat the blood report and check the blood serum creatinine count.
The report on 16th May came down to 2 mg of serum creatinine. Dr. Majumdar insisted us to get an AV Fistula to be done for regular dialysis on the left arm of my husband. We had repeatedly requested the doctor to check properly all reports and past reports/history to avoid any further dialysis. He stated to us that we were not wanting to face the reality that his kidney is totally damaged and the blood serum creatinine count would increase again once the dialysis is stopped. Hence suggested to continue the dialysis and undergo a kidney transplant as soon as possible. He also went up to the extend of making us look for a suitable kidney donor. My mother in law was willing to donate her kidney and was made to do blood group tests for the same.

On 17th May Dr. U.N.Sarkar as advised by Dr. Goutam Majumdar did a surgery at your hospital and did the AV Fistula operation. On 18TH May without repeating the blood reports Dr. Majumdar did another dialysis to him.
On the discharge day on 19th May, we advised us to take a set of chronic kidney disease medicines and repeat dialysis 3 times a week . Following to this we were advised to think about kidney transplant in due course of time.

After discharging my husband from the hospital we went to Hyderabad and visited Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology, where we met Dr. Venkatesh Rao and Dr. Ashwini Kumar Aiyangar of Dr. Mohan’s diabetes Speciality Clinic. The doctors checked all report and previous records also. They diagnosed that he was suffering from Acute Interstitial Nephritis. They clearly advised us to stop all medication prescribed by Dr. Majumdar and repeat test in 2days gap. The blood serum creatinine came down gradually to 1.75 mg on 24th May and 1.1 on 26th May.

My husband and me came back to Kolkata and till date no dialysis is required by husband and neither any medicines.

Keeping all the facts in mind, I strongly feel that Dr. Goutam Majumder and M/s Nitangle Hospital have intentionally misguided us, banking on our ignorance of the ailment, and made my husband to undergo the AV Fitsula procedure and even wanted my husband to undergo a kidney transplant. I strongly feel that the acts amount to criminal offence, and stupendous mal-practice.

I henceforth request you to immediately take urgent and stren actions against the people involved.

I look forward to your earliest response on the same.
