In May 2021, Provident Housing launched a scheme for their Provident Park Square property in Bangalore. I got a call from a representative saying real estate prices had fallen due to the pandemic, it was a buyer's market, so they were offering low prices. The catch was that I had to pay Rs. 1 lakh (100% refundable) to show my seriousness, and I would be offered the low price. There was also a banner on the providenthousing.com website at that time which mentioned the scheme and the refund.
I transferred Rs. 1 lakh in two installments on 30 May 2021 and 2 June 2021. I was made an offer for a flat in late June. We felt the flat was too small, so we decided to withdraw from the scheme.
I was told I would get all the money back. I have WhatsApp messages from the relationship manager saying explicitly that I will get a cheque for Rs. 1L from the company. In late July, the relationship manager left the company without a word to me. I then got his boss's number, who assured me again and again over the next two months that I would get my refund. However, he would not give me a date nor send an acknowledgement email. Later he stopped taking my phone calls.
In October, I called up Provident CRM. They noted down my complaint, and when I called later, told me my that complaint had been approved by the boss mentioned above, and moved forward to the finance department for "fund allocation". They would not give me a date either. A week or two later, I visited the Provident office at Ulsoor, where I spoke to the CRM head. She told me that Provident Housing did NOT run any such scheme during May-June 2021!
