[Resolved]  Auto Rickshaw Union, Chennai — Auto Rickshaws charging passengers heavily

Let us come to the scenario where in we are facing recessionary salaries.
Our salaries have shrunk and the cost of petrol has increased.
This will make the cost of the commuting by auto rickshaws more tough.
After seeing the way Auto Rickshaw drivers loot money in chennai, it seems to be a very tempting thing to become an auto rickshaw driver.
Satyam signal on anna salai to Spencers plaza is 500 meters, and the money that you have to pay to the auto is Rs.40/- ( ONLY ).
The reason that they give is, we have to take a de-tour and come back to the place where the auto started.
I dont understand the logic - Are autos charging us for to-n-fro ?
Another typical scenario is, even at signals when the autos ask for so much money, you go to a policeman and tell him that the auto is charging more - the answer is " If you want to travel, pay that much money and go, dont waste my time " and walks off.

Pre Paid Auto stand : We board autos from CMBT ( Koyambedu ) bus stand from a pre paid auto, the charges are pretty high there itself, How ever you have to pay Rs. 20, 30, 40 more because your house is not on the main road.

Pretty scary scenario, Sometimes we feel are we in India ? Are we part of the same country ?
My take on Chennai - The most unfriendly foreign destination that any Indian can travel without a passport !!

It seems there is a comman misconceptioin about people working in IT cos, that they have loads of money to spend in...as if we just go and pick 500 Rs notes from some magic tree. I have seen this many other cicties but the scenario in cheenai is an exception to that as well.
I believe the entire system is flawed and many have a cut in it. There is no reason why we can't metere system or normalize fairs.. but the point is no one wants to do it.
Sometime i think of opening an autorikshaw agenecy and im sue if it goes well i will earn 10 times more than what im earning now.
My friends in previous co used to call chennai as onsite...only now i understood why?

Yes, The same happen to me too. I kindly request the police and the goverment to take stern action againg the auto's in chennia. Please help us in this there are many people out in chennia who is face the same problem.

The CITY POLICE should own the complete responsibility for correcting the situation. Otherwise we can come to the conclusion that the CITY Police is the major profit maker in this Auto Irregularities and their arrogance..

I request the Student Unions to take this issue and resolve it for the Chenni People ...

Auto Charges — Autos charging HEavily

Sir ,
I stay in mysore, People using Auto from Infosys Gate is very huge, Auto walla at this point charges heavily even though a Board for the transport cost is put in the Auto stand. Same way the person getting down from Bangalore signal Near Columbia Asia is charged heavily ie 120-150 for a distance of 9 KM to infy. which is more than twice of meter price.
We would request to establish a prepaid counter on this locations, by which lots of people traveling to and fro from Industrial Area towards Bangalore can use , by which lots of time can be saved for the passengers.

Greed is endemic to the Tamil race.It is in their blood. The same fast buck culture is seen in autorickshaw drivers who are the scum of Tamil society. But upper classes are no better. Across all castes and classes in Tamil Nadu, you will observe a common trait-greed. Having said that, Tamils must understand that in a civilised society one must live within certain norms and that applies to autorickshaws. If the police cannot control them and implement rule of law i.e. charging as per meter, then the cops are unfit for the job.
The recourse then is to file a PIL in High Court or Supreme Court to order these cops to implement meter system within a time-frame of 30 days and file a contempt of court petition against the Chennai police commissioner after the time frame has elapsed.
Local Tamils in Chennai are also suffering at the hands of these automen but since greed is part of their culture, they are keeping quite. No local person has spoken out.

The Rickshaw Driver always park his rickshaw front of the office gate. I told him many times that please don't park it here but they don't listen.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I would hereby like to complain about the co operation and tantrum that Autorickshaw drivers show to general public.

I am a resident of Nihal Vihar (West Delhi), Auto rickshaw drivers here have formed a cartel here of harrassing the general public here. They have formed a short of a Autorickshaw stand near the Nihal Vihar Bus Stand opp Ambika Vihar on a Bridge that connects to Nihal Vihar.

Every morning these drivers assemble there and indulge in chats, playing cards and smoking. They have various excuses like they are busy with organizing Jagran etc.

In my 11yrs in this area, these people will just not agree to go anywhere in Delhi for unknown reasons, even if someone agrees than it will be never as per the meter.

Even after the Delhi govt agreed to increase the Fare for auto rickshaws in Delhi, these people have the same attitude.

People like me who use these autorickshaws on regular basis because o[censored]rgencies in life, face a lot of inconvenience because of these people.

I have come across several people facing similar problem, we have to travel to other areas to get an Autorickshaw.

Please advise on the same.

I am writing this complaint regarding Auto Rickshaw in chennai. They are charging too much money from the public. It's not even estimated by us. One night i asked a auto driver from Egmore to Medavakkam which is having a distance of around 25 kms. They asked me 900 rs. Is it Auto Rickshaw or AC Car. Then after he given discount 200 rs. and asked me 700 rs. Is am i living in India or some other country. Why the govt. not providing proper rules on this. WHY THEY ARE ENCOURAGING THE AUTO RICKSHAWS.

At the time of taking auto fare is different and it will change while travelling after some extent. When he reached the area where we talked, he again bargain or use ruthless language for more money. We can't say it's bargain, it's a command or demand. obviously we say the area where we are leaving. Our house will not be there on the road or bus stop. They are going to drop us at road. If it is the case then we can prefer bus. This is all their tricks to get more money.

We are expecting Auto Rickshaws should follow meter system in each corner of chennai. I observed this in Mumbai city very strictly. why can't in chennai. IS MUMBAI NOT IN INDIA?????? or IS CHENNAI NOT IN INDIA??? we can say both are developped metropolitan cities.

I don't know whether it's reached high officials or not, but as a citizen of INDIA i heard my voice.

I am writing this complaint in regards of the GUNDAISM that some of yours Auto Rickshaw Drivers are carrying on the road and specially at night time... Is like yesterday i hired an Auto no. TN 07 AE 6739 from Amanjikarai to central for Rs 120 and after reaching there i gave him Rs 150 and waited to get back the change. And surprisingly that guy was not in any mood to return any kind of change and when i asked the same he replied so harshly that it is night time so he is not going to return any kind of money. Is this is the way you people are dealing with your customers. Also there were loads of incident which was happened in the past where when dropping us at home suddenly there price will increase from what amount we have decided at the time of boarding. I hope someone is there who is listing our complaints and working for the betterment in the positive way. Also need to take your attention on the below following points.

1) why here Auto Riders are not using the meters.
2) Why Union is not responding and taking some strict actions.
3) why Auto Drivers not afraid of the union.

Auto drivers here in Chennai are very arrogant they are not ready to give the change if we ask them, they start fighting on the road abusing.Even after the meter system has come people are still facing the same problem they ask for extra 20 to 30 rs above the meter charges.
I dont understand when the meter system has started why we are forced to pay above the amount?
There are still some auto rikshaw drivers who are not willing to come on meter charges,
even after our C.M had implemented this law why the auto drivers are not using that?

Today I took and auto from an auto stand in chennai. When I told them where I want to go and asked for meter he refused point blank. He asked me if I have no decency to ask for meter for such a small distance. He insisted I pay 80 rupees which is 30 rupees over the meter value. He then tried to convince me that by meter it would cost 57 rupees even though I know for a fact that it costs only 50.He then told me accept what he says as I would not get another auto at that time of day . He was basically threatening me. As a school student this is unacceptable and request action against drivers that charge over meter value.
