Two different RTO offices in Bangalore have calculated taxes differently for the same vehicle.
I had first visited the Jayanagar RTO and then the RTO on the Hosa road.
The Jayanagar RTO personnel calculated the tax and the same was duly paid, but since my residence is in the jurisdiction of the of the other RTO, they directed me to submit the papers in the other one.
After almost 3 months of having submitted the papers in the other RTO, I have been told to deposit even more taxes as I have not paid it in full. On investigating further, I have been informed that the otehr RTO has not calculated tax on the discount and teh same is payable.
a) Is the discount really taxable? Does that mean that I pay taxes on the amount that I donot even spend. That is ridiculous!!!
b) Why is there no uniformity over how taxes have to be calculated?
c) Does it also mean that the people who pay taxes in a particular RTO pay lesser taxes than others?
Is there any remedy for such anomalies?
