Hi,
This is to draw your attention to the fact that certain brand retailers viz. @ home, food bazaar, globus, hypercity, star bazaar et al have started levying a charge per each plastic bag which is required to take home the purchased product/s.
There are three aspects to be considered here - (1) they are illegally selling plastic bags carrying their store/brand logos to customers citing some obscure govt notification (2) the said notification relates to restricting the use of plastics in our day to day life so what they should be doing instead is switching over to paper or such other eco friendly material rather than charging for the bags (3) every store worth the name, insists on customers leaving their bags at the security counter before entering. How then is it practical to carry our own shopping bags from home?
This looks like yet another hare brained notification issued sometime back, which has now been taken out from the cold storage by vested retailers so that they can make a fast buck at the customer's expense and get free publicity at the same time 'coz all the bags bear the store branding.
If they intend to implement the notification, let them sell plain plastic bags at the correct value - for the consumer it's a double whammy as each store has a different rate per bag basis the branding/material grade, whereas, for the customer, once the goods reach home, it's just another garbage bag!
Need more like minded individuals to revert on my views above.
Rgds,

- They are selling carry bags which is illegal.
- Government should instruct all the shops and malls to give paper carry bags and not to charge for it.
- If govenment is permitting to sell the plastic carry bags, no shop/mall should not print their names/brands on it.
This issue is now not restricted to only Mumbai but affecting to each and every city. This is absolutle not fair and government has to take some strong action against this issue.
