[Resolved]  Bru-Brooke Bond instant coffee — Held a fraud contest

Dear Sir,

Sub: Serious complaint - the contest a sham?
Ref: Sip and SMS Contest
Mobile No: [protected]
Smsed on: 6.8.2009 at 3.58 p.m.
Smsed earlier with the same result
Have also smsed 2 more coupon numbers with the same result.

It was with great enthusiasm we bought three new square base jar with the happy announcement of a contest. Not one but the two children bought a jar each. Following the instructions to the dot on the coupons, the following exchange took place:

I Smsed : BRU C

Oxigen replied: Thank u for participating. Pls sms BRU and the UCN printed on ur BRU Pack to [protected] eg. BRU[protected] to get Free mobile Recharge. Enjoy New BRU.

My reply: BRU (space) (with the 9 digit UCN)
Oxigen reply: Thank You, But UCN is incorrect. Please send the correct 9 digit UCN on ur Bru pack in this format BRU[protected], to get assured recharge.

I called up the Toll Free number [protected] to inform about the incorrect response to a correct and valid entry. Arthi, a personnel took down my complaint and assured me that Oxigen would get back in 2 days. For one whole week no one got back. After that when I called to ask, she said she has been informing Oxigen and does not know why they had not got back to me.

A whole week later, when as promised Oxigen did not get back to me I called up the Toll Free number. Arthi again said the same thing and it sounded a lie. I insisted on speaking to the manager. Some Ashish spoke politely informing me that very surely I will GET THE RECHARGE ON ALL THE THREE COUPONS NEVER MIND THE LAST DATE ie. 14th. of August. Believing such a big name as Brooke Bond, I believed these people and asked whether the Toll Free number would be around even if the contest is over. They said yes.

To my great shock and dismay, after the 14th. the Toll Free number DID NOT EXIST!!!

This was not a genuine contest by Brooke Bond but a sickening gimmick to deceive poor customers like us. In these days of rising costs we live by hope and participate in contests hoping Lady Luck might chance to smile on us.

No recharge
No entry form to the caption contest.
The loss is all mine to get Rs.18 deducted for the many SMSes sent for the contest.

THE SHAME OF IT ALL!!

This is a very serious matter to us who have sworn by Brooke Bond. I have the coupons with me and also proof of the SMSes sent.

I await the action you are going to take against companies that hold such fraud contests, not to speak of the Toll free numbers and the liars who no longer exist.
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,
R.Kamala.

Announcing a contest assuring 75 Scootys, publishing eleven names of the winners in a tamil Daily even before the closure of the contest date announced and subsequently becoming silent, assuring Rs.25/- cell recharge and keeping mum---- all these expose the fraudulent behaviour of the Great Concern as The BRU Instant NEW besides attracting case in the Consumer Protection Fora. Are they ready to face?
I completely agree to the above stated complaint. The BRU advertisement create such a hype amongst public with their new offers, but they don't seem to be genuine. I had participated in the scooty pep contest with so much of excitement and anxiety; but to my surprise, the results we announced before the last day of the contest. When they are willing to spend so much money on advertising, why dont they spend a little more money and announce the winners on tv itself?
