My son was 6 months old when I had taken him to cradle kids clinic for a regular check up. The doctor whom we consulted was Dr.Kishore Kumar, CEO of cradle hospital. Bangalore was very cold during the months of december, january and inspite of that, my son was sweating a lot. I casually mentioned this to the doctor during one of the vaccination visits. He told me that excessive sweating indicates lack of vitamin D3 and that i need to get a blood test done for my son and also for myself. The blood test was expensive but we got it done. The results showed that the D3 levels were vry low and also calcium levels were low in both me and my son.almost traces. The doctor advised multivitamin drops (Mimz) and some calcium supplements for my son. After that my son started passing pale stools (Ash coloured) and it continued for over a month. During our next visit, I mentioned this to the doctor. he told me that its not normal and if I am absolutely sure of the colour, it indicated that there was bile duct obstruction in the liver and that it may require immediate surgery. In the meanwhile he asked us to get a USG of the liver done. We did it and the reports were fine. We went with the report and the same problem. I asked the doctor if it is due the medicines that he had prescribed. The doctor refused and said we need to get a HIDA scan done to find out if there are any obstructions in the liver. The HIDA scan is done only in HCG hospital in bangalore. Its a very expensive affair and requires injecting of radio active elements. The process takes over 4 hrs.He gave me the number of the doctor whom I should contact there and get a test done. Any delay would mean further damage. Dr. Kishore tried to call this other doctor himself first. Its our good luck that he couldnt get through. Through out this, I broke down and couldnt console myself. My baby was born healthy with a birthweight of 4.3kgs.His growth is super normal and he is very active. He was eating normally and weight gain was consistent and top of the charts. All these facts were known to the doctor.
My relative is a very well renound child surgeon in singapore and I happened to contact him with my son's case. I was relieved when he laughed at the interpretation of excessive sweat indicating deficiency of vitamin d3.He rubbished the interpretation and advised me to meet a child specialist known to him in bangalore. The same night, we visited the child specialist and spoke to him about the case. He heared us out patiently and explained to us everything we should know about the problem so mentioned by dr.kishore kumar. The specialist confirmed that there is no problem with our child and asked us to discontinue all medication and visit him after two weeks. He was ashamed that such kind o[censored]nwarrented practices are existing in a scared profession of doctors. We stopped all medicines and after two weeks, my son started passing normal stools. Since then there hasnt been any problem. My child is doing fine. He is acheiving all his milestones on time.
We lost a lot of money by way of liver test, vitamin d3, calcium, phosphate test, consultancy fees of 500rs every time etc..and above all the mental peace for almost 2 months..and all because of the jazzy upmarket image that cradle is known for. How will they maintain this image if they dont make money like this?
My advice to every parent who takes their child to Cradle - Beware!!!!!! Was this information helpful? |
