[Resolved]  DTC Ticket Checkers — Eliminate people without conviction

Address: New Delhi, Delhi

Sir,

On Saturday i.e., 28.05.2011 I had to perforce make a hasty change in my normal route and visit a Bank located at New Rohtak Road. Accordingly I reached Nangloi at around 7.30 in the morning and took a DTC Bus Regn No. 9444 on Route No. 918 for reaching Sarai Rohilla. Once in the Bus I, in my hurry and quite out of focus, asked for a Rs.10 ticket which the Conductor gave to me.

At Rampura four namesake DTC Ticket Checkers boarded the bus and a white haired person asked for the ticket which I readily gave. On checking he never mentioned to me about the deficit in the amount of ticket I had taken. After checking all the passengers and finding all of them in order, he called out to me to inform that I had, in violation of the actual fare, taken a lesser ticket. The man had white hairs and I would not have expected a senior person to have been so naïve in his conduct with a person as much senior or more. It would have been in the fitness of things if he had asked me to get an extra Rs.5 ticket over and above the one I held.

On my enquiring as to what I had to do under such circumstances, I was told to pay up Rs.200 as fine which I immediately handed over and collected a receipt for the fine imposed on me.

The level of Ticket Checker is that of a Supervisory standard and not a Class IV Employee who may be excused for a defective judgment especially in case of senior citizens who need to be respected, much so in the presence of public who look upon seniors as the guiding star for a society already running on the wrong rails. But – as a 62 year old man – it is the first time I came across such a Ticket Checker who lacked vision, conviction, judgment and lack of appreciation of a commuter who had righteously and forthrightly purchased a ticket which might have fallen short of a few rupees, which if advised would have fulfilled the wishes of the Checker. But to equate a person of 62 years at par with thieves, burglars and unsocial elements is much against the norms of a society that needs to respect elders who have a responsibility within the society.

By no stretch of imagination can it be argued that a person who honestly bought a Rs.10 ticket would have naively avoided giving a Rs.5 extra. And to have charged a fine of Rs.200 was blatantly wrong, irresponsible and much against human tendencies that ought to respect people of value and conviction.
If DTC is unable to trace men of brain and conviction but is constrained to cling on to mute, irresponsible, despicable men of ill worth with a robotic image, my advice to you would be to hand over the fleet to private people who would at least recognize elders as elders and not just a part of the band wagon of thieves and smugglers.

In the present instance, the least that DTC can do is to pull up the Ticket Checkers and in particular the white haired person (should I seek his suspension?), who needs to be imparted some training on how to utilize human brain while dealing with human beings running around to make both ends meet, not as robots dispatched to carry out predefined errands but by use of their brain and conviction.

Thanks.
Yours sincerely,
