G3 Telecom — Charging old rate per minute

I have been using G3 Telecom since year 2003 and never had any problems. Customer service is at par with whatever other large telecommunication companies offering minus the rudeness and attitude (especially Rogers).

One has to consider that most of the calls are not landline based but Internet based (and then to satellite off course) and the quality depends upon many other factors. G3 Telecom still beats Vonage in quality and rates for sure. I found G3 quality is way better than Skype as well.

The best quality of service would be Bell landline based international calls if one can afford their higher rates. It’s like taking detoured cheap flight tickets where the aircraft stops at many places before reaching its destination and if we complain about delays then would be wiser to take a direct flight.

I have also found that many of the countries including India where I call my Mom all the time have their own line problems due to various factors and even trying with Bell sometimes the call never goes through. I try calling by Bell just to check if lines are all right. As with any other cheap call rate communication companies their common phone line also clogs up time-to-time and all we have to do is wait for few minutes and try again (best example is repetitive website hits makes it slower as well). The amount of money I save using G3, I would rather take little problems associated with it with a grain of salt and move on.

However about G3 still charging old rates to their old customers is not right and should be looked into immediately. May be there is something in the fine prints of the contract, which we usually click “I read and understood” online without reading it. Even if they don’t refund the money but still they should change ones call plans to the new cheaper rates if requested. I signed Rogers cell phone plan three years ago way more expensive than what they are now but I can not ask them to change it to cheaper rates now.

I believe talking to the customer service or visiting their office would probably sort the problem or if not then we are not bonded and could move to other companies offering similar services.

I agree, they have good rates, quality and service. However, charging you their old rates sucks. What you can probably do is close your account, and open a new one, that way you will automatically get the new lower rates (plus their even lower promotional rates good for 30 days).
No, no, you don't have to close your account. If you're an old customer with them and you discover that they've in fact lowered their rates, call them up and ask your rates to be adjusted / lowered (it also would help to mention that you're an existing customer for some time). I'm pretty sure they'll do it for you without any fuss. I don't know about others, but I've never had any problems with their customer service.

I hate that this is the way it's going but take note that even Rogers won't give you their latest lowest rates if you're an old customer (they will still charge you the old rates when you first signed up) unless you call them up and ask that rate change.

II'll take this small hiccup with G3 over the awful service provided by Airtel or Reliance. Believe me, this issue is nothing compared to the headaches you'll get with those providers.

Cheers.
