Maruti A Star Vxi DL9C L 4858 caught Fire, Burnt Completely
Saturday evening on 27th Nov 2010 , when my wife was returning home from office in her car Maruti A-Star VXI ( Regn No. DL9CL 4858) at about 6:20pm , on the traffic signal at Govindpuri, New Delhi while she was waiting for green signal, there was a loud sound from under the bonnet of the car and smoke started coming out. Suddenly there were flames coming from under the bonnet of the car and she quickly escaped from the car. The flames started small and grew and enveloped the car in a deadly inferno. Police and passerby’s stopped & tried to get the fire under control but that could not happen. Finally fire brigade people reached on the spot & controlled the fire. The car was completely burnt & Finally taken to Police Station at Okhla Industrial Area , New Delhi .
The car was recently given to Apra Auto (I) Pvt Ltd, Okhla Phase-I, New Delhi ( Maruti Authorised service Dealer), on 21.11.2010 for regular servicing & received back on 24.11.2010 at about 7:00 pm. The Vehicle was not used on 25th Nov, but was used on 26th & 27th Nov for going & coming back from Office at Janpath.
The burnt car is now lying at Apra Auto(I) Pvt Ltd, Okhla phase-I, New Delhi .
I have also read & heard that there was some design fault in fuel pump of A star, as accepted by Maruti. We need answer from MUL after complete Investigation of the vehicle at Apra Auto (I) Pvt Ltd, Okhla Phase I, New Delhi .
Was it a manufacturing defect, Result of faulty engineering or design or negligence on the part of service dealer?
I was told that technical team from Maruti will visit Apra Auto, Okhla & investigate the matter on 29th Nov 2010.
The car & all the documents submitted to Apra Auto(I) Pvt Ltd, Okhla Pahse-I, New Delhi on 28th Nov 2010 .
