[Resolved]  MCD Dog Catcher Squad — Danger from Street Dogs

Dear Users, This problem of dogs will never go away. Kids who get scared on seeing a doy tend to run and this is where he/she gets bitten. No kid is safe till the age of 15-16 years. I myself have 5-6 dogs roaming in front of our house. If I go further down towards the DMS or Mother Dairy, there are more dogs on the way 7-8 dogs. They are fed by the people who buy bread/milk/buscuits etc. Once they form a pack and have a daring leader, they are capable of tearing apart any child. MCD has no solution, simply they will sterlise them and put them back. Sometimes, MCD makes mistakes, one female and a male dog have suddenly vanished, who have been living in our locality for 2 or more years. MCD dumped them somewhere else. I have been to Sanjay Gandhi Animal Care Hospital at Raja Garden, there are approx. 700 dogs there. There are rescued donkeys, cows, horses and what not. The hospital is unable to manage the mess. They won't accept small puppies for adoption, because the older dogs will kill them in no time. I could not stand inside the hospital for 5 minutes, the stench of and about 200 dogs barking or fighting with each other is a site to be seen. There was total confusion, as to who is the boss. If you tell the hospital to take away the dogs in your locality, they will simply ask you to contact MCD for sterlisation. This is no solution. I have been keeping pets when I was a teen and I still feed the stray dogs. Believe me, this is the only way you can make friends with them, otherwise, no member of your family is safe. As I feed them, they respect me and my members of the family get respect too, because, the fear me too. Keep a big stick with you, if the need be. But, first you have make him/her your friend, and than they will respect you. My niece is just four years old, but, none of the dogs dare not come near her, otherwise, they know what I will do. Dogs have short and long memories. Sometimes they forget within 5-10 seconds but an act of cruelty or kindness they remember lifetime. I was also encircled by these Mother Dairy pack of dogs and at that time I had never fed them. I changed the strategy and the next day I befriended them and now they just adore me and respect me. But, you need to be firm with them. Never be scared of a dog, never leave your space or try to run. You have to show them who is the boss and they will respect you and all your family members. Feed them twice a week something, preferably, 5-10 Rs. glucuse buscuits. Hope this helps. Sunil, Inderpuri, New Delhi 12 [R-Block]

I would like to add to my above comments, that this is strictly for people who want quick remedy for immediate safety of yourselves and your family members. You are free to chose other methods. I know this is a menace we have to live with. No other country does this.

there are around 10 dogs that are bothering us everytime during walking and whenever we are around our street..

One of the things also mentioned in this "common" complaint is the hygiene factor. I am sure these people themselves don't ensure hygiene conditions and its their own children as well loitering around, but no one would ever take notice of that.

Dogs are never ever seen as a threat until somebody beats them, ill -treats them, pelt stones and other things at them. Rather in many localities they act as best guards if you just do not see them as a threat. They are also living beings and they also feel the same pain just like your kids do. Please be little compassionate out of your comfort zone. Dogs are known to be the most loving and loyal creatures and best guards. Even we have lots of dogs in and around our house, society and even office, but we treat them well. So when as a girl I am coming in late at night, they all protect and guard me and I feel safe in their environment, which is not true otherwise in Delhi anywhere.
My earnest request: Please stop ill treating them. They NEVER mean you any harm.
