after the camera is switched on, the lens comes out fully, shows "zoom error" on the lcd, a few blinking noises and then the lens goes in automatically, and the camera shuts down by itself. Its amazing that this happened immediately after taking it out of the cupboard to use it! Even replaced it with new batteries twice, once with rechargeables and then with AA alkalines.
