On 16th January 2010, myself along with my family members traveled from Trichirapalli to Tuticorin by Tamil Nadu State Transport Corpn bus ( TNSTC ) . The bus started at Trichy and destined to Tiruchendur. The bus left trichy around 3 PM.
The bus halted near a petty shop at Kottampatti for tea, where charges are at par with all other shops.
Once again the bus stopped at Pandalgudi Bus stand. There is only one hotel there which serves tea, coffee, milk and food. There are 2 -3 other shops inside the bus stand which sells like snacks, beverages, tender coconut, etc among them. The rates charges were exorbitantly high when compared with the product. This is a clear example of MONOPOLY. The authorities should make sure that there is fair competition which would bring value to the passengers who opt to eat there.
The authorities should keep in mind that, not all passengers can afford to pay such charges for these products. Let the authorities discuss this issue with the shop keepers there and make us get food economically. The term service and economy is upheld by the TNSTC but not by these entrepreneurs.
