I HAVE A FIXED DEPOSIT ACCOUNT WITH THE PUNJAB NATIONAL BANK AND IT HAS REACHED MATURITY. WHEN I REQUESTED THE BANK TO RELEASE MY FUNDS, THEY HAVE REFUSED TO DO SO AND CLAIM THAT A LETTER FROM A POLICE OFFICER HAS BEEN RECEIVED ABOUT THE ACCOUNT WHICH INSTRUCTS THEM TO FREEZE THE ACCONT UNTIL FURTHER ORDERS IN CONNECTION WITH AN ENQUIRY ABOUT MY HUSBAND. PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM AN INDIVIDUAL PAN HOLDER WITH THE INCOMETAX DEPARTMENT AND I HAVE FILED MY RETURNS SHOWING THIS DEPOSIT AND THEY HAVE ACCEPTED IT. I HAVE MADE SEVERAL ENQUIRIES ABOUT FREEZING A FIXED DEPOSIT AND I LEARNT THAT ONLY A COURT OR THE INCOMETAX DEPARTMENT HAS THE RIGHT TO FREEZE A BANK ACCOUNT. I WOULD LIKE TO CLARIFY IF THIS INFORMATION IS CORRECT. Was this information helpful? |
