[Resolved]  S.H.Mumtazuddin — UNETHICAL MOBILE STORE: S.H.Mumtazuddin , KOLKATA

Hello Consumers,

This is a time when common people are reacting strongly towards any corrupt & unethical system running down our society. I am writing today to raise such a voice and consciously not to malign any house.

S.H.Mumtazuddin is a well known brand in Kolkata who was famous for their competitive price, range & after sales service in watches, electronics & mobile phones. This story is about their mobile phone outlet at BBD Bag area run by a very arrogant, uncivilized & inhuman person young fellow who is supposed to be the “owner” of the shop.

The shop apparently sales you main item at lower price and then charge subsequently for other services which are offered as free value added services by other outlets generally.
As an example , they may sell a set Rs 400 lower than the other shop, but will charge 150 for screen protector, 150 for image & address transfer, 150 for an inexpensive mobile phone pouch.
The shop is oriented in such a manner that you have every chance of feeling cheated. It does not operate under single service window. The present shop management thinks they are clever enough and has arranged sales representatives from all leading brands who all try to push sell their item. Two salesman standing side by side will confuse you over two brands ( Say between Nokia & Sony Erickson ). The arrogant master on the floor will behave as if he is doing mercy on you by lowering 100 bucks or so.
Inspite of all ( in my case) when you close a deal, you might get surprised as they make you move in entire shop for getting slips and paying them to a number of payment counters. Technician team at a floor above are carbon copies of their master. They will make you feel technically inferior by say “Oh you don’t know this simple stuff”, “ Please keep quite”, “ I know my job better” etc. They did the same to me, without knowing I am an Electronics Engineer.
Then you will found that you have been made a series of “false” commitments at sales counters and rest of the shop is asking for money for every bits and pieces of service they would offer. Services like image, address transfer from old set etc.
This is when , I went very annoyed and went back to “master”, he said “do know what deal you made, go to the sales person”, when I went to the sales person by controlling my emotions as a customer and self respect, the sales person tell…” Please go to Master”….then you know what happened!!!
To my ugliest surprise the master, shouted at the top of his voice to the sales person with repeated use of 4 letter Bengali abuse and finally expelled him from the shop.
I found this extremely demoralizing for lower middle class employees who earns few penny by selling those silly things and gets such a nasty feudal response from his employer right here at the heart of Kolkata. Be it Budhdha or Mamta, we boast for our human face, and now see it shattered.
I then asked to refund my money and return the set, on the ground o[censored]nethical behavior. The shop had a pin drop silence and people murmured their bad experiences. The arrogant master again shouted saying “ won’t return his money, lets see what he can do”…then I had to reveal my professional identity…I was unhappy and was trying to be like a common man with no position or connection but only consumer rights!

Finally I walked out of the shop with the refund and purchased it from another store who actually sold the set at Rs 400 lower than Mumtazuddin, provided the value added services from Mr Nundy & Montage (situated opp to Sri Ram arcade)
