Like Harish, I am one of the oldest clients of VSNL; when they had only one server operating for their business! And like Harish, I am also renewing my account with them to retain the email id which has been with me for a very long time.
With TATA-VSNL's current attitude one can only pray that like MNP (Mobile Number Portability), we consumers have the option of choosing our Service Providers without changing the email id!
Wishful thinking here, but am sure that many have been pushed to the extent of wanting to move from their current ISP.
Ever since TATAs have taken over, the service aspect for VSNL internet has gone down. In fact I dare say there is no service except lip-service.
I have faced this for my vsnl account [protected]@vsnl.com recently whereby they have reduced my mail-box capacity (from 10MB to 5 MB) & simply refuted the fact that I have paid for a 10 MB mail-box space (for upgrade of additional 5 MB). And now they would like to charge me for the same (addl. 5 MB space on my mail-box)!!
Also in spite of having tried their WEB based SMS facility couple of times & failed to use same (in time period suaitable to me) because of some technical problems from their end, I have been left that much poorer!! No solutions given only standard & irrelevant responses (mostly).
Responses to queries are more robotic in nature than others I have come across.
There is nothing like escalation of an issue at their end.
Also there is a tendency at their end to just avoid questions that may put them in a spot!
And to think Mr. Ratan Tata is one of the signatories to the better business practices etc letter drafted by prominent business people (and sent to the PM recently)!

I have been having my email account for about 20 years. But now I am not able to renew the same, although I am able to login to check webmail

My E-mail a/c [protected]@vsnl.com has been suspended since last week. How to reactivate or renew it?
We also have a vsnl email account, which got suspended without any prior notice/intimation, which was there for more than 25 years now. Just not able to renew nor able to get in touch with Tata Communication to find out the alternative.

Dear Friends, I am also one one of the victims of this worst service of VSNL. I took the VSNL internet connection long back in 1996 from Vizag when internet was provided for the first time. That time it was md3.vsnl.net.in and my e mail ID was [protected]@md3.vsnl.net.in. Latter they gave this vsnl option and changed my email ID to vsnl.com, and both were working. The problem started in 2006 on wards when the internet became more common and I started getting more messages. vsnl used to provide only 5 GB space for about 900 and no proper facility for recharging. Their service is very very poor and tata made it still worst. I really wanted to renew my old account but just to keep the memories (the nostalgic feeling) paying 6500 is too much

THEY ARE REALLY THE WORST INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER!!!
I HAVE TO FORCIBLY GIVE UP MY 15 YR OLD EMAIL ADDRESS, AS I DO NOT WANT TO PAY 6500/- FOR 1 YEAR RENEWAL!!!
