We were travelling from dubai to trivandrum on 17th june 2016, reached trivandrum airport by 8 am, the officer who was on duty (Customs) asked us to pay duty for tv... He told me to keep rs.5, 500 inside passport and he gave receipt for rs.3, 500 only. And he told if we make issue he will open all the bags and charge more..., he was standing on last row next to a lady officer and he was not wearing the name tag. We didn't make any issue since we were travelling with kids. We have noticed many of the travelers requesting the officer for not taking any money as bribe since they dont have enough money with them. Hence, he was making fun of them. Most of those are labors (We could easily make out) and traveling to india after 4-5 years. Its very sad and pity that we have to pay money to such beggars of indian customs to take some items from abroad. We have no issues to pay tax to our country. But who has given authority to customs to receive the money directly from travelers. The practice in trivandrum airport is that the money received by customs beggars then he take his money and return the balance and advise us to deposit at bank counter. We doubt the vigilance also part of the act since these acts are clearly monitored through camera. Each one (Officer) making rs.2000 from a traveler and its big scam happening.
