Decathalon - Applewood — invasion of privacy

I want to the decathalon store and chose items for purchase. Going to the check-out, i presented a credit card for payment.

They asked me for my "contact number."

I replied i don`t give out my private information to anyone.

They replied that i would not be allowed to purchase the items.

I called the manager. He echoed the same policy.

I left the items and exited the store.

In my opinion, business have no right to my private phone number, just because i wish to purchase something. They will only use it for telemarketing or sell it to other organizations.

Please inform me if i was within my rights to refuse to give my number.
