I live in usa and purchased a flat in godrej horizon, pune solely based on discussions with sales persons over phone. I wanted to go with an established brand name to avoid any hassles that people usually go through. But, i thoroughly regret my decision of going by reputation now as i have had pathetic experience dealing with godrej team! At one point of time, due to personal situation i was late in making payment and godrej charged me hefty interest of 15% and asked to pay close to rs. 1, 65, 000/- as interest amount. I made arrangement for the payment and cleared all outstanding payment along with full interest charged to me without any hesitation or negotiation. Now, godrej has delayed the delivery of possession by almost 9-10 months while i have made more than 90% of payment already. I asked for applying the same rule of charging the interest for the delay and compensate me back with equivalent amount which comes close to rs. 3, 90, 000/- (@15%/year). But, godrej simply refused to pay the same!
Instead of paying me this amount back, godrej continued to charge interest on my account (Around rs 60, 000/-) for the outstanding amount (Around 2, 70, 000/-) which is less than what godrej owed me at that time (And still it holds true).
I have had many discussions with mumbai custom care team and pune team, but they would not honor my request to compensate fairly. Instead they said that the most they could do is to offer me some white goods worth 1, 00, 000/- as a good will and waive 60, 000/- additional interest which they charged on my account while i was trying to resolve this dispute. Later, they came up saying that they will not be able to offer any compensation apart from waiving additional interest of rs. 60, 000/-. I explained them multiple times that there should have not been any interest in my account as they owe me more than what i owe to them. I failed to understand why godrej would not pay me what i am entitled to! Is my demand to compensate with interest applicable for the delay period not valid? I am still not counting the potential rental income loss here otherwise the amount would be even greater.
I have had so many calls, discussions, email communication, but none of that helped. I am physically not in india and hence i could not complete the registration and agreement formalities (My mistake.. I agree..) for my flat. I feel that godrej is exploiting that part of the situation to get away with the payment as probably legally they are not in problem (My guess). But, that does not change the loss on my part due to delay in possession… i would expect that the way i paid the penalty when i was late, godrej should also follow the rules and accept the penalty. This should be a simple math of calculating how much godrej owes to me applying the interest during the delay period and then check how much i owe to them and figure our the net amount to clear the dispute. But, godrej team would not agree on this!
Anybody thinking of purchasing at godrej, i would like to caution you and encourage you to do some more research on reviews and experiences other customers have. Big names are not always what they look like!
