I have been banking with hdfc and so far they have been great. They have been considerate and helped me with the personal loan # 39456771 when i needed one.
I took this loan while i was employed at a very good salary package due to which i could easily pay the emi of roughly inr 13100. However, after i took the loan my company had layoffs and i lost my job. I was jobless for a while as there were no such well paying jobs and i had to settle for a job that does not pay as much as before. I paid what i could from my savings but the job search took a long time. Because of this i had accumulated a significant outstanding emis and bank charges.
I learned from my friends who work at banks and from the internet that there is something called as loan restructuring for situations like this. I pleaded to hdfc bank associate who has been handling this case to consider this situation as i never had a loan default in the past, however this person who has been handling the case was downright rude and offensive.
He even harassed my family and friends who i listed as my references. I have been asking him to kindly let me know of my options however this person keeps repeating like a parrot and says that i should ask my friends and family to pay it for me, which is not just a breach of sensitivity but also invasion of privacy. He even mentioned that hdfc has no such facility. I have faced a lot of problems because this person revealed loan related confidential details to my family members and friends by calling them.
It all started with a simple request to restructure the loan to that i can catch up with the emis and my life can be normal again, however this behaviour from hdfc and it's affiliates has been not less than a waking nightmare for me. My relative who practices law has suggested that i should reach out to the bank on a public platform like this, before i file a consumer court complaint. I have no pleasure in going through all this as i know everyone is just doing their "job" but there is a certain degree of sensitivity and professionalism that we as consumers expect from such reputed financial institutions. All i wanted from hdfc is to allow me to pay a single emi of inr 15k which is more than the actual emi to start fresh and live my life like a normal person. During my last visit to the bank i had a terrible road accident because believe it or not, these endless calls from banks can cause a lot of distress and stress. I even wrote to the loan helpline from the netbanking options however they did not respond. I don't wish to reveal this person's name because i'm sure he also has mouths to feed and people do all they can to survive in a world like ours, even if it means breaching the confidentiality code between the bank and the consumer. I even called the loan customer care but the rep did not tell me who to contact about this.
I have been going in circles due to this.
