I have gone to the hdfc imphal branch to open a new savings account and they are saying that for opening a new account, i need to provide cheque as account cannot be open with cash and when i ask to show such rules they are simply asking me to contact the zonal head which i tried but couldn't contact. So, if a person doesn't have any other account then he has no option for opening account. So, it's like hdfc bank doesn't need new customer.

HDFC Bank Customer Care's response Dear Customer,
We wish to inform you that cash is not accepted as initial paying amount while opening a new account. If you do not hold any account with another bank to issue paying cheque, you may get the cheque issued from the account of any blood relative.
