Subject: icici debit card misuse
Dear sir,
I am writing to draw your attention on the misuse of my icici debit card on 23 july 2016. Though i have already lodged complaint on phone banking as well as gone to the branch where i hold my savings account and filed up the ‘card dispute form’, but unfortunately it has not been resolved.
For your reference i am giving the detailed account of the incident as it happened. I received a call on my mobile from the mobile no [protected] at 15.18 pm and caller identified himself as nagender sharma from icici bank. He told me that he is calling with regard to the debit of rs.5000/- on my card around 3-4 years ago wherein i was trying to withdraw the same from the icici atm at uttam nagar. At that time the amount was debited from my account but i didn’t get the money from the atm due to some technical error. And this incident too was never resolved despite my repeated visit to the branch.
Now this person contacted me with all my personal details available with the bank i. E. My full name, home address, my date of birth, my old debit card number which convinced that he indeed is calling from the bank is right person and has contacted me to solve a long overdue issue for which i had lost any hope. He said that earlier debit was done due to some portal error at icici bank and he would need my new debit card details with cvv number. Though i was convinced that he is the employee of icici bank who not only has my information available with him but also is aware of my complaint and i am finally getting help from the bank to solve the same, i still was hesitant to give him my card information. To which he said that i am required to give him only the card cvv no and not the pin so that he can check and work on resolving my complaint. When i gave him details, he informed me that i should share the confirmation number received on my mobile to proceed further. After sharing the confirmation number, i got the message that there is a debit of rs.2500/- from my account. When i asked him how this has happened, he said that as he is working on the system, i am getting confirmation of some old transactions again. But when there were further 2 more debits of rs.2500/- each, i confronted him that he is cheating me. Now he told me that again there is some technical problem with the icici portal and i will get the credit back in to my account on monday, 25th july 2016. But i was suspicious and to save myself from any further loss, i transferred the entire balance of my account to my daughter’s account.
I then called customer care and shared the incident with them, got my card blocked. My sr no for the same is[protected]. I was informed that icici bank vigilance team would look into this and take action. On monday 25th july i went to the bhikaji cama place branch and filled up the card dispute form as advised by the vigilance team on phone banking. On 30th july 2016 i received a message that the dispute of rs.7500/- has been declined as the transaction has been authenticated with a 3d secure pin.
This is totally unacceptable as it is absolutely not possible that any one but a bank’s employee would have the details which this person had and there was no way any outsider would know the details of my earlier disputed transaction with the bank unless bank choses to share the same. Had that person just called up with my personal information and asked for the information, i would have never shared anything with him and above all i never shared my atm pin.
I would appreciate if you could intervene and have both these incidents resolved at the earliest.
Thanking you
Manoj kumar gupta
