[Resolved]  OPTM Health Care — Fraud & False Advertising

My mother suffers from chronic lower back pain. We had seen the half-page advertisements of OPTM Health Care in various national newspapers which promised pain relief including from back pain. In fact, their website claims as follows:

"These Phyto-Medecines, uses live enzymes of plant cells which when applied externally on the skin, enters through the pores of the skin and is carried with the help of bloody to the affected areas. Once the human cell and plant cell come in contact with each other they share the properties of either re-growing or healing a damage part in our body naturally. These products have no chemicals or preservatives and thus are 100% safe to be used even on a new born baby to a pregnant women and also works for ages above 90 years. It is a unique invention of its type has the company has already been able to heal millions through-out the world. This is the only medication available in the market which can help you get rid of your pain for ever."

We visited the OPTM Health Care centre in Delhi at GK-II. After speaking to the doctor/physiotherapist there, we were assured that my mother would be pain-free at the end of their treatment of 42 days!. The treatment involves massage with a special oil- three times a day, a foot soak and a mixture to be taken with a glass of water. One massage had to be done at the centre itself. Further, all pain-killers, calcium and muscle relaxant drugs had to be stopped. We were first offered a trial package of 4 days- (which costs around Rs. 13, 000). We took that package, and since the massage gave an initial relief, we took the 42 day package (which costs more than Rs. One Lakh!!). The entire payment was demanded upfront. My mother started the treatment and was given massages three times a day along with heat therapy. However, her condition started becoming worse instead of improving and we approached the doctors/staff there to understand if we should continue with the treatment. We were repeatedly informed and assured that increase in pain is normal (bcoz the cells are regenerating) and the pain would start reducing in a few days and we should continue the therapy. Relying on the assurance, my mother continued the therapy and was also abstaining from the pain-killers as per the strict instructions of the staff at OPTM. The treatment continued and my mother's condition progressively deteriorated, however, the same assurance was given by the doctors at OPTM time and again. Finally, I decided to speak to Dr. Apurba Ganguly who is the main doctor at OPTM. However, this was more difficult than getting through the President of the United States! I was categorically informed that Dr. Ganguly does not speak to patients over the phone and I would have to visit Kolkata from Delhi if I wish to speak to him! Anyway, after much pleading and requests, I was finally given the number of one Mr. Das who is the regional head. I spoke to him and he assured me that he would make me speak to Dr. Ganguly. I chased him for about three days, to no avail. The elusive Dr. Ganguly refused to speak to a distraught patient who just wanted to know if the treatment should be discontinued. The decision was soon taken out of our hands as on the 40th day of the treatment, my mother's condition had deteriorated so much that she was put on immediate bed-rest. So, the end-result of 40 trips to OPTM, spending over One Lakh, and chasing the doctors at OPTM Health Care was a complete deterioration in the health of my mother. Finally, we approached surgeons at various hospitals and she was given allopathic treatment. It is noteworthy that OPTM Health Care is continuing to advertise in a big way in the national dailies and more and more people are flocking to their centre in the hope that some relief may be in store. Relying on false assurances, we spent so much money on the treatment- with no results. OPTM Health Care should clearly mention in their advertisement that the treatment may or may not work, and also their doctors/staff should be candid enough to admit that their treatment is a hit or miss. The advertisement is clearly false and misleading and OPTM should not dupe desperate people in pain into believing that their treatment would definitely work. Also, Dr. Apurba Ganguly, the founder, should have the decency to speak to the patients over the phone- you just cant be too busy or arrogant for that. I would advise anyone who is thinking of going to OPTM to do a thorough research and talk to atleast 5 patients and their experience before embarking on the OPTM journey- if at all.

I was planning to take my mother to OPTM for a check up, with a hope to get her some relief from knee pain, however after seeing the above comments I am confused. I can see Tripti mukherjee mentioned her details and the issue but there was no comment from OPTM on her case. Then there are journals and Dr. Ganguly research verified by European Medical Association. Don't know what is true. Please someone guide me with the facts.

PLEASE DO NOT GO! Save your mother the agony of their "treatment"
People who are complaining are the patients and sharing their experience but the persons who are commenting in favour of the OPTM are not disclosing who they are? In what capacity they are associated with the Institution and commenting on the complaints? Unless they disclose their identity/relationship with the Institution, how to trust the authenticity of their comments? Why not any senior person from the administration/panel doctors refuting the complaints?

Hi .. I am a patient of severe back pain .. chronic slip disc in 3 disc ..prolapsed...I have seen 5 doctors, have done kerela therapy, physio, perhaps every damn thing on this mother earth.

Last 5 years my situation has detoriorated. I wanted to tell all my friends and patients ..please know that no..therapy or massage, natural process can work. Please know slip disc is a problem with nerve and can only be cured if the prolapsed disc is taken care of .. surgery is the most successful technique and with a success rate of 90% is the most optimum cure. Please don't get persuaded by any adverts or any false claims ... I have spent millions on this already. .doesn't work people...yes massage and therapy can work in cases of spasm formation and muscle contraction ..

Please visit Indian spinal center in Delhi or consult best doctors ...I stay okay most of the days with medicines and physio ...warm massage twice a week ...early morning stretching, sleep on flat beds, drink isabgol.. to clear your stomach ..avoid skipping meals and gas formation...avoid operation till you can..but that's the ultimate thing we all have to get done...all the best ..stay well
I usually never write reviews but in this case I am compelled to. My mom has been very impressed with Dr Apurba Ganguly and his flamboyant speeches and advertisements. She has acute knee problem. She lives in north Bengal and I am based at outside the country. She had high hopes that her problem will be taken care as they advertise. I always had my doubts but never imposed them on her. She went to Calcutta to see the Dr and was recommended 3 months of medicine. Her X ray was done as well. She told me over phone that on her first day she met a patient who went through 11 days of treatment already in the first month and that made her condition worse. The hospital mentioned that it was because she did not take the medicines on time and may have over exerted herself. I asked my mom that "how do know that was the case". Are the medicines so finicky? " Did you ever talk to anyone in the clinic who told you that "YAYYYY the medicines worked wonderfully for me?". She went back the second day and met with another patient who was under going the treatment. Both the 2nd patient and her husband were utterly frustrated. I then started reading the reviews and came across this post. This was a life saver. Though we wasted lot of money for plane tickets and hotel stay, atleast my mom was able to escape and this did not deteriorate her health further.

Rule of thumb>>>" WHEN SOMETHING IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE BELIEVING IT. WE WERE ON THE VERGE OF GETTING INTO A TRAP"...

Who ever is thinking to invest any money /time/health i would highly recommend that you speak with real patients before you do that to make sure they have seen improvement. I understand it is not a miracle and there would be some fall outs but i would expect atleast 50% success rate. In that case they should have some patient information. If they say that they cannot share it as it is confidential ( Typical evasive statement i would expect), wait in the clinic for a day and meet few of them.

Similar story..but got out of it as soon as no results were forthcoming. Good advice!
Very similar stories as above of treatment not working. We were lucky that we stopped at the first sign of deterioration. Charlatans the lot of them. The "masseuses" seem to be totally untrained. Equipment gives totally false readings. Eg. My mum weighed herself just before she went to the clinic at Koregaon Park Poona. They weighed her there & within a couple of hours and she seemed to have "put on" nearly 4 kgs! When she came back home she was back to her normal weight! The same thing happened with the blood pressure equipment. PLEASE BEWARE OF THESE PEOPLE. They seem very dubious.
They are not registered doctors.I'm a doctor. And as per advertisement I went for an interview, but it wasn't an interview ..they just advertised about them. And that too they dared to speak some minimum money as salary..whereas they r taking lakhs from patients.. Just remember their treatment does not come under Indian medical laws..because they claim they r accepted by European Medical Association. So Mr.apurba ganguly why r aren't u coming under AYUSH ? Fraud..better not to fall under this trap.
Complete recovery in 60 days.
My patient ID RA-61299

I have taken the treatment in Kolkata Rashbehari and my brother in law in Mumbai for osteo- arthritis and cervical spondylosis

I have got wonderful results duly finishing their 60 day programme. I  work in a MNC in Kolkata which is into Information Technology and my brother is a researcher in biotechnology. I had read the above negative comments but when my brother went through their published peer reviewed  research papers he told me that OPTM's pain protocol is completely scientific and evidence based as communicated in the advertisement. After that i crossed checked with all the profile link of people who have commented in the forum I discussed this with their management to my surprise except two profiles all were fake ID generated to sabotage the companies images.
I then traced all the IP addresses what i found was very shocking 90% of the comments came from the same IP address.

As Ayondeep has mentioned in a comment to mention the patient ID which no one is doing hence once should be careful  to judge the treatment with these stupid & vague comments. It such a big crime to sabotage anyone's image one can be charged of Cyber Crime.

The last comment is more shocking as i found out from their team that there were no interview taken in the name of Rohini Chakrabarti. I  personally feel Rohini needs to keep hersel[censored]pdated as OPTM is not only has registered doctors but a team of well qualified scientists  involving Vice -chancellors, head of the department & research scholars from top Universities in Kolkata.  And regarding coming under AYUSH they are not only registered phytomedicines under them but recently they have also received an award from the AYUSH Minister for their remarkable research on phytomedicine. I would also like to comment on the MDoc if you are from Pune at-least spell it properly (POONA is what you spelled it as) Can you provide your patient registration number ?? If you dont know the spelling of place you live in i doubt you can also measure blood pressure or weight. Do you have a blood pressure machine in the house please mention what is model name  and also what machine did they use in OPTM clinic?? Please mention the same ASAP.

For all new & existing  readers of this forum i would request you to visit them before you jump on to any conclusion by reading all the above fake comments. I have benefited my before and after reports are with me please feel free to mail me anytime i can assist you with my number once i receive a mail from you. I dont wont to share my number in a public forum. My brother in-law is also scheduled to finish his treatment in 9 days and according to him he has drastic improvements, . I have met more 20 patients during my treatment in their Rashbehari center 80% satisfaction is what they mentioned, amongst them one had come to OPTM on a wheelchair now he walks without any support. Doesn't that say a lot?? Please meet or discuss your issues with their Patient coordinator who could of great help.

LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST I AM AMAZED AND STILL VERY CONFUSED HOW DIFFERENT COMMENTS HAVE COME FROM THE SAME IP - FOR READERS WHO DONT UNDERSTAND IP - (It basically help identify the source of the internet connection)
Hi There! People at OTPM seems very technical and even their patients who are giving positive reviews. Dear rnsenrnd can you please tell me how you were able to check the IPs of all negative reviewers? Because you are nor the admin of the website, not even the business/page on CC website.

@all people here, I am a techie and let me tell you that by reading all the replies and positive reviews here I claim that people at OTPM are very smart and they are simply trying to manage these review.

PS: I am not their patient or nothing, just come to know about them from a friend and thought of reading their review so I could suggest to my friend about this clinic but people at OPTM is trying to manage all these reviews and thats an ALERT for everyone.

लोग छुपाते और बरगलाते तब है जब कुछ काला होता है दाल में।

Just a request for all people who are looking for treatment with them on how to ensure if OTPM is going to provide good and effective treatment is not:
- Visit their centre nearest to your place, if possible visit a centre native to your place and ask a list of few recently cured patient successfully. last 6 months, not the people those are getting their treatment.
- Double sure the list by reviewing all of these patients SATISFACTION REPORT signed by the patients.
- Ask for Phone Number of at least 5 patients. There is no problem in providing customer details to potential customers, if the business how it works. Everyone in the industry does it to get more business by verifying its work by letting their new customers talking and meeting by the previous happy customers, so OPTM have no clue to deny that fact and should not have any problem in sharing the details of customers.
- Talk to those 5 customers and try to setup a meeting with them and meet the real patient who was cured and This will help you see them how they are in real and if they were actually cured. If possible take your parent (for whom you are actually looking for treatment)

Yes that's really a long, hectic and tough to deal and ensure with, but if its about getting right treatment for our parents and making sure that their conditions don't get even worst then now, I am sure we all will do this to ensure they are happy an healthy no matter if OPTM is the right clinic or any other clinic.

KIND ATTENTION to: Hey media managers of OPTM, don't mess with me, If you try even to write and response anything against me or try to defame me as wrong, I have much to share and expose about the team behind. Lets create a peace and stop posting bogus technical terms in front of people who don't understand it and try to make them fool. Think about your own parents if one day they will be trapped by such an incident.
Total FRAUD.
Total FRAUD.
This think OPTM should give in written that condition of patient would not deteriorate with their prescribed treatment (if could not be improved). This seems a huge risk for a patient those are already in pain. My mother has just started taking treatment from OPTM (10 days trial) and now I am bit worried that we should continue or not. Being optimistic, I would definitely hope that her condition would not degrade from current circumstances. Similarly most of the patients come with hope towards OPTM, even after trying other remedies and treatment.
I am not mentioning about money because its very subjective to consider the loss based on financial capabilities of individual. But they would obviously expect that life would not be kept on toss.

I called up OPTM after looking at their misleading ad in Gurgaon Times. I was informed that the treatment for my mother will cost between 10, 000 to 35, 000/- depending on the condition which can be told only after a body exam. We went there today and I asked for the fee card etc. but was told that it would be provided only after I paid the registration charge. I paid the registration charge of Rs.1200/- and my mother went in. She tells me that normal body measurements were taken by Deepa Singh and then I was called in (since I had to finalize the package cost etc.) I was told that she would need 42 sittings and I was handed over a printed rate card where the treatment cost for 4 limbs for 42 days is 1, 30, 000/-. Since I could not afford such high cost I asked them to refund my registration charge which they flatly refused.

My point is that why the rate card was not shared/shown before I paid Rs.1200/-? I would not have even paid the !200/- registration fee. Bogus Company. As per the prescription Deepa Singh is a BPT. On the internet I now see that BPT means Bachelor of Physiotherapy Treatment. Not even a full fledged doctor. What a mess. I thank god that I am saved as these glorified so called doctors or quacks would have made the life of my mother hell.

But something needs to be done by the Govt. They should at least regulate these type of institutions if not close them permanently.
Complete wastage of mone. Mr. Ganguli talks like a roadster. He is not even qualified and he talks very rudely. He touches patients inappropriately. Pathetic clinic. Fraud people. Beware of them.
What a coincidence, just this morning I was watching an interview of Dr.Apurba Ganguly in a Bengali TV channel. Throughout the interview Dr.Ganguly was explaining about knee surgery and what are the different methods available nowadays.I went on listening because I wanted to find out about his method of treatment. But I was disappointed. He only talked about his research and how many awards he got.Any way coming to the point, instead of arguing about whether the treatment works or not, OPTM can publish few treatment details of some of their actual patients and the public will be able to form their own opinion about it.
I am Suprised by checking some negative comment on Optm health care.

I have visited Delhi branch of OPTM Health Care. My Mother had a knee problem for last three years. OPTM offered us a very good plan to heal knee pain. I am satisfied with Optm work and guidelines. They are best in healthcare. I personally recommended optm for knee pain problems.

Doctors and Staff attitude is quite fine and although they will properly guide you they will answer your queries in as short as possible.
I am the satisfied and happy client of optm health care.

Before coming OPTM center GK, I was having a lot of pain in my back due to lifting heavy weights.
Treatment has helped me before to overcome misalignments in my back, Spinal decompression with phytotherapy treatment was finally able to give me substantial relief after just a few visits.

The specific area in my back that was being pinched due to the damage I'd done by lifting weights was stretched out and the pain went away. It seems strange to think that I walked around most of last year in constant pain, but ignoring it because I thought it was normal. It seems almost crazy that I was going back to the gym and hurting myself by compounding on the previous injury. My new normal is to not be in pain. It's a great feeling. I love that I can live my life and not think about aches and pains in my back.

I've been coming for two months and there's no real pain left.
I was suffering from severe knee pain for the past 10 yrs.I could not walk properly, then my friend had told me about OPTM center in Kolkata.Getting myself diagnosed, i was told that it can be treated and i started with my treatment there. Today i can walk properly and there is no pain in my joints.I'm completely satisfied with the treatment and would suggest people to visit OPTM for any pain related issues.i am surprised to see lot of negative or fake reviews about optm.I am posting my x-ray report too(before and after treatment) for ref.
