Passport Seva — Father's name wrongly printed but still requiring name change documents

Hi, When i applied my passport i gave PAN CARD as proof in which my father name was wrongly printed. I wanted to change my father name in my passport for which i have Aadhar card/Ration card as proof but passport officials says my father has to issue a notice in news paper for this against which they will reissue my passport. I am not sure if this is correct as the name that i have in my passport is wrong and needs to be corrected.
