This is Sagar Nil Basu Roy ([protected]) from Kolkata.I have been here in Pune city for the last couple of months for an office tour and staying at a lodge in Shivaji Nagar area. This is to inform you that during my tenure here, I have seen all shop keepers of almost every area in Pune are selling the branded soft drinks (Coke, Pepsi etc.) bottles over their printed MRP (for example, they are charging Rs.12 or Rs.13 for a bottle of MRP Rs.10 and Rs.35 or Rs.38 for an bottle of MRP Rs.30). Apart from Shivaji Nagar (Station/ST bus depot), I have experienced it in areas like Viman Nagar, Pune Station, F.C Road, Swargate, Pune Corporation, Kothrud, Kharadi etc. Being asked, they are having different excuses at different times, like:
1) They have to pay the cooling charges to the Govt (Shops of Viman Nagar area),
2)They need to pay a commission to the suppliers (everybody),
3)They are just obeying the instructions given to them by the actual owner of the shop (Krisna Icecream, Shivaji Nagar Station area, Pune-411015)
4)This is the rule here, they don't know about what the hale of MRP means (very arrogantly said by a shop keeper in Swargate area),
5)Their margin is so low, that's why they charge a little bit of extra over MRP...and so on...!!!
I just want to know what is the actual reason behind of these matter as all the soft drinks companies always ask public to only pay the MRP printed on the neck of their bottles in their tv commercials? I am not ready to believe that the local administrators are fully unaware of the fact..what's the reason of their inactivity which inspires the sellers continuously? And why the common people are not protesting as they have very little idea of the concept of MRP??
