I had misplaced the drain plug and called their customer service number for a spare drain plug. The customer service agent confirmed that there won't be any visit charges since thecoolee was under warranty. I was willing to pay for the drain plug, which, according to the Symphony spare parts price list, cost Rs. 12. I asked the agent about some basic preventive maintenance such as cleaning the tank, and I was told that there would be no service charge for that.
The service engineer arrived at the committed time. He opened the rear cover, poured in some water, drained it out, and fitted a drain plug. He then demanded Rs. 190 from me. On asking, he said that the cleaning that he did was for Rs. 150 and the drain plug was for Rs 40. When I showed him the price list, he said that Rs. 12 was the price of the drain plug and Rs. 28 was the tax, bringing the total to Rs. 40.
I called the customer care in front of the service engineer and asked for spare parts price. I was told that the server was down and they could not check the prices. It seemed like a pathetic excuse to facilitate swindling extra money.
This is plain cheating by Symphony's authorised repair service centres.
