Dear Sir,
TANGEDCO, a corporation in Tamil Nadu supplying electricity to its consumers take bi-monthly reading instead of monthly for the past one decade.
This method which I feel is incorrect. The electricity tariff for consumption of more than 200 units is doubled. For example, a consumer uses 200 units per month has to pay charges for 400 units, when the meter reading is taken for two months. This situation has to be immediately rectified so that the consumers may not incur into heavy loss at least in future.
RATIONALE: If a consumer uses below 200 units for two months, the charges for 1-100 units is Re.1/unit and for 1-200 units is Rs.1.50/unit. Whereas, if a he uses more than 200 units for two months, the tariff will be Rs.2/unit and Rs.3/unit respectively upto 500 units. Normal calculation for 200 units for one month will be Rs.300 only and for two months the calculated amount will be Rs.1,000/- for 400 units instead of Rs.600.
SOLUTION: Eventhough, the meter reading is taken bi-monthly, average consumption for one month may be calculated and the amount arrived so may be multiplied by two. The loss to the low level consumer for one occasion will be Rs.400 and for one year it will be Rs.2,400 for a minimum usage of electricity. The total loss to the entire consumers of Tamil Nadu for a month, an year is left to your calculation.
