Subject: Regarding taking irregular fines and refusing new connection


Dear Sir,

We are the residents of Jhalwa Colony, near IIITA Allahabad, U.P. We build our houses in this land and start living here only a few months ago. Some of the residents who came earlier even got the electricity connection by anyhow means while others who came after some time do not have electricity connection yet now. The authorities are even not accepting our applications to give electricity connection.

Now, a few days ago a vigilance team came in our society at random and took a fine of Rs 4000 per head only from the selected houses for using illegally the electricity. Again now a fine of Rs. 30,000 per head is being posted at our homes again only to a few selected houses which have to be submitted within 15 days. We have also paid an amount of Rs 4000 per head for installing electricity poles in this area at the start time.


Now the question is this how long will we have to pay such huge amounts in the name of FINE which is actually many times larger than our till date electricity consumption(@ 21units*365days)? Upto how long we have to wait for connections?

When we enquired the department they said that your area has no electricity connection. So you all have to pay again an amount of Rs 3,75, 000(approx.) for establishing the connection in this area+ (individual home connection charges). If there is no connection in this locality, then how some of the people are getting monthly electricity bills?
Also such a huge lump sum is not possible to pay by such a few number of people.

Sir how much absurd the situation is. Take the fine upto the period we have consumed the bill. But again and again taking fine in different ways and not providing the connection till date is not right. How long could an average person pay such fines? Electricity is the basic need, it is totally impossible to think without it.



Therefore we humbly urge you to look into the matter and take immediate and necessary steps for the problem to be sorted out.
