on 16th June 08 this agency took rs.5000 from us and promised a maid to bring with us to Mumbai. This maid was to be paid a salary of Rs.5000 in return for cooking, cleaning and playing with the baby. she was to work with another maid in the house who comes in part time to sweep mop and dust. additionally i had another full time marathi bai who wanted to leave since she had a uterus removal operation. I spoek to the maid and the agency from mumbai on three occasions saying time and again that pls send me a candidate who knows everything since i go to work. my mother in law then got this girl on june 16th itself b cos the agency insisted that she s a very good candidate and later they might not be able to get her. so she stayed with my mother in law in cochin till July 27th when she brought her here with her. dduring this time she did no work in that house since there is a full tyime maid there anyway insisting that she can do everything in bombay. we believed her and brought her here to find out that she does not even know how to cook rice. not only that she would simply not do any work . I observed this and tried to make her do things and finally on 16th august called the agency and told them this one is of no use. moreover she would get very friendly with any men she saw- watchmen, dhobi, watchmen etc where the society also started complaining. I gave all these instances to the agency and said i want a replacement and also that i would not pay her 5000 since I had to keep my full time maid since this one was not able to do any work. I also could not send her back since there was no one to take her back. if my mother in law went there wou;d be no one to take care of the baby and i was not getting leave from work. finally in november my mother came, so that my mother in law could leave with her. both in august and in the following months i kept calling the agency and speaking to a lady called sreedevi complaining about this girl and the revised salary i would be paying her. the girl also agreed and only grinned when we asked her why she cheatde us saying that the agency asked her to say that she knows everything b cos they cant get you back from mumbai so fast. finally last week when we took her back, the proprieter was extremely rude saying that we have harrassed the girl harassing my mother in law in turn and said that no way they are goi g to take anything less than 5000. she said we have signed the contract saying we ll give 5000 and she ll see how we leave without paying the money. i asked her what about the promise they gave us as cleints that we would get someone who ll do everything? she had no answer but simply shouted over the phone. My mother in law being old just gave up handed over Rs.25000 for five months o[censored]seless work and came back. I thought of letting this go but then decided to do something about this. I am sure many more people are suffering b cos of these fake agencies that have cropped up everywhere. I have lost Rs.30000 in the bargain.
