Iam a resi. of Dahisar west. Mumbai 68.
Nowadays the street dogs menace has increased a lot in Dahisar east as well as west area. Even there population is growing like hell. Street dogs after sterilisation are being dumped in our area which belong to some other areas. so all these dogs are getting over aggressive especially for Bikers. This problem might take the life of bikers or people walking on road as the dogs come to bite even during day time & at night the problem gets worse. instead of decreasing the population of dogs is increasing due to dogs being dumped by BMC to our area . Kindly look into this matter as early as possible or else the Concerned department is going to be responsible for some big accident in near future.

This Garbage area and the adjoining lane has an ARMY of ferocious DOGS chasing the residents day in & day out...barking & biting to no avail...will the BMC take notice of this please...??? the dogs need to be eliminated/ eradicated immediately...

I stay at Vikhroli(W), Mumbai off the LBS Marg. I travel to work by BEST. The distance from my society to the bus stop (Gandhinagar, Vikroli(W)), is hardly a 3 minute walk. There is this gang of 6-7 big stray dogs who are normaly chasing each other barking loudly and chasing other dogs in the vicinity. They run along with great speed in groups barking and flashing their teeth. This is a usual nuisance since they are not scared of humans at all. They will dash thru you if you come in their way.
This morning at around 7.20 I was on my way to the bus stop. As usual this gang of dogs were chasing other dogs barking loudly. I was trying to walk avoiding these dogs and was almost walking in the middle of the road. You know how busy the LBS road is. Somehow in a moment these dogs in their chase dashed on me from behind, toppling me onto the road. I fell on my back completely shocked and scared. There were a continuous flow of vehicles on the road and I got up just in time to avoid being driven over by a car.
This place is badly infested with stray dogs and the municipality needs to do something to stop this menace. Dogs do not understand your language, so why don't you take an action and have these dogs transported out of busy places like Mumbai?

I am a resident of I.C. Colony, Borivali. The street dog menace has increased many fold during the past year. I request the concerned department of the Municipal Corporation to relieve us of the inconveniences caused by these dogs.
Dogs are very loyal to everybody. Lodging complaint against them is madness. They only bark and come forward to bite the persons who are unknown to them. They start barking at beggars, drunkers, etc. Dogs are protecting people from theives. If we are not able to provide them food, nobody has a right to get rid of them. I have a pet Dog who Is in my house, I have for past 9 years taken licence for the Dog and follow the rules, however my neighbour have 9 cats soon there will be more cats with their litters, they do not allow the cats in their house, but instead are left in the compound, they on the staircase, and keep residents awake with their nocturnal yowling..cats go in neighboring homes and grab food left unguarded., the owner does not even feed the cats, the scratch the scooter seat cover and damage it, some Lady a dog & cat lover from neighborhood comes and feeds the cats, however the son age 22 years do not allow the girl to take the cats and have them sterilized, this only to cause a nuisance value, On one day i took the dog on leash for a walk, after which i let him loose in compound so as to run and get some exercise, he chased the cats, the owners son 22 years came down with a Bamboo and hit me, he even threatened to stab me with the knife if i brought the dog down in the compound, i am a senior citizen, put a written complain to Police who stated i should put complain to BMC, went to complain to Health Department BMC HW ward they told me they can do nothing in the matter and that i should lodge a complain at Police station, there is no license no rules to adopt cats, as such this is being misused to cause nuisance value. NGO and BMC to take a strong note of same, and make some provision rules for citizens keeping cats to cause nusience.
i am a resident of Govind Nagar, Village road, Bhandup west mumbai 400078...facing same problem and infact couple of days back 2ppl were bitten by those dogs which we dont want anyone else to happen same...plz a request take an action in my area...ASAP...
I am resident of Pandurang Wadi, Goregaon East. The stray dog barking in the middle of night has been a problem faced by us as well and i am sure it will be same with most of suburban Mumbai. The dog barking which sounds like crying is considered to be bad omen in many communities, besides it disturbs the life of the residents in the area. This is one issue where no one in particular is responsible.
But there is another issue related to dogs and this time it is not stray dogs but pet dogs.I am sure that people who have pet dogs are all dog lovers and must be having all the knowledge regarding pet care. But do they have the knowledge that they need to train their for the daily duties as well?
I have seen many of the owners taking their pets for walk in the nearby area where these pet defecate on the foot-path (where small school going kids and other people walk) or in front of someone's gate. Why don't these civilized people realized that littering public place or such other places is anything but civilized behavior, besides they are being aiding in the spread of dangerous germs, virus, parasites etc.in the society. Do they ever think about cleaning the place after their pet's have made it dirty? Many of people like to follow western styles, then why don't they they learn such rules from the west where a dog owner has to clean the public place where his/her pet has made it dirty? These people don't want their own premises to become dirty but they don't mind spoiling the neighborhood premises.
Stray dogs are not trained but these pet owner's are all well educated people. Has anyone ever given a thought to this?

YOU CAN DO SOMETHING !!! - Please Read On...
Reading all the painful and sad stories and with the horrible experiences thousands of people have gone through and keep going through everyday, regarding stray dogs menace and the dangers - there is only one thought that comes to the minds of we 'So-called precious 'HUMAN beings' - "It's a Dog's Life !!!" Yes ! - Because with what is going on in this 'Mera Bharat Mahan' country - It's the DOG's life & welfare that is more important than that o[censored]s - Humans.
I used to be a dog lover some years ago but certainly not now with all the nuisance & danger that is caused by stray dogs who seem to have more 'RIGHTS' to live & roam around freely than we humans do, in the so-called developing, modern, 21st century India.
Has our government, the animal protection groups & NGOs forgotten that it is us - 'Humans' that pay taxes from our already burdened finances, to run the country, our respective cities and towns & NOT THE STRAY DOGS, and that it is the safety & welfare o[censored]s HUMANS that have to be thought of, instead of the safety of stray dogs. We slog and sweat it out to earn our daily bread and want to have atleast peaceful sleep, but alas ! we common people are not so fortunate to even have the right to sleep, thanks to the stray dogs barking throughout the night.
There are a few solutions to this menace:
1. Wish we all could just dump all these strays in the compounds, premises and residences of the people heading these animal protection organisation, like one run by the affluent Maneka Gandhi & Sunish Subramanian of the Plant and Animals Welfare Society (PAWS), who live in their posh & very secure houses & bungalows, away from all these dangers, nuisances & frustration that we common people go through every single day & sleepless nights. According to Sunish Subramanian, in Mumbai Mirror on Jan. 22nd 2011, he says, "Mumbai, stray dogs should be surgically neutered, vaccinated against rabies and then released in their respective areas." - How Atrocious & ridiculous !!!
Does he not know how efficient the government & the municipal corporations are in carrying out these tasks?? And will vaccination against rabies keep these dogs from biting any citizen or attacking anyone, causing injury, trauma, fear, etc to the innocent victim, even if the dog didn't carry the rabies virus??! Would the stray dogs behaviour change with sterilisation & vaccination?
2. The best practical solution to this menace, to protect ourselves and to have our right to move around freely & get our much deserving sleep at night is to get rid of these strays ourselves - by this - I do not mean killing these dogs but by driving them away from our building premises & complexes but scaring them with significant injury to drive them away that they never return to that place again - HOW ??? -------- Try using
'AIR' pistols or rifles to hit these stray dogs ! I personally thought of this method after getting totally frustrated as I couldn't sleep at nights despite staying in a very good complex & paying Rs. 10, 000 as monthly rent at Thane. Also, I didn't want to get into any legal trouble by killing any dog. The AIR pistol you need is any .22 caliber Indian pistol, which has a range of around 40 meters & use pellets which can cause a good HIT & mild injury to these stray dogs, causing them to flee in pain & fear. The dogs get so scared after that shot that they don't dare to remain there or return again, which is a BIG relief to you. I personally tried this & it worked great for me in my residential society & surrounding and we have our Quality of life back to a large extent after the dogs vanished from our area. In fact I also used my Air pistol to hit several dogs from the neighbouring compounds too that used to bark & agitate other dogs causing a hell of a noise at night. These dogs too got the shot of their lives & fled with their tails between their legs!
And if any of your neighbour, etc, who feed these dogs, confront you - then tell them to keep those strays in their houses, if they cared so much for them. To avoid any trouble & to avoid making yourself too public - it's best to aim your shots at the target stray dogs late at night, when most people are asleep & the dogs are most active. You can't afford to show-off here or get too noticed!
These AIR pistols are available in Mumbai with several dealers, the list for which is available on the internet or with ‘Just Dial’.
They cost Rs. 1600 - Rs. 2000.
CAUTION: Please consult the dealer about the required purpose & they will guide you to purchase the right power pistol which would ONLY MILDLY INJURE THE DOG & NOT KILL IT - because some AIR pistols are more powerful & can actually cause severe injury & bleeding, causing death of the stray dog. You don't want to get into legal issues for some stray dog - Do You?!
CAUTION: Air pistols & rifles ARE NOT TOYS & CAN CAUSE SEVERE INJURY TO HUMANS TOO - IF NOT HANDLED WITH UTMOST CARE & HAS TO BE KEPT OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN!
Another thing to remember is to never shoot the Air pistol in the eye, face or head of the stray dog as this could also be fatal if shot from a close range so it's important to aim at the fore legs, the hind legs or the back region.
I'm not sure if I'm doing the right thing by sharing my experience & advising you this option but with the government’s & authorities apathy towards us citizens, whereby they treat us like DOGS - this is the only practical & effective way to keep off stray dogs from our housing societies, complexes & localities.
The views & decisions taken to tackle the dog’s menace that are shared in this comment, are solely my personal one. Discretion & judgment is advised from all the readers, for their own personal safety & benefit!
All the best & Take care !
