Jet Airways – Compensate fairly for our lost items
Hyderabad, 14th August 2012: This complaint is about the miserable experience we have recently had with Jet Airways on our way back from a vacation with our family in the US. On Sunday 10th June 2012, my father and I were on our way back from Chicago to Hyderabad via London and Mumbai when our cabin bags were forcefully checked-in due to insufficient cabin space after we boarded the United Airlines flight at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. This last minute check-in was not done properly as per procedure and our 2 cabin bags were both hurriedly checked in. The worse part was that we were not given enough time to review our valuables and remove them from these bags. After reaching Mumbai in the late hours of Monday, 11th June 2012, out of two cabin bags we received only one bag and the other missing one which contained a Sony handycam and a jewellery bag apart from some clothes and food items. We immediately raised a missing baggage claim at the Jet Airways’baggage claim counter and listed out all the items that were in the bag, and the Jet Airways personnel at the counter estimated the worth of the contents of the bag as Rs.70,000/-. We reached Hyderabad on the early morning of 12th June and at around 8:30 PM on same day, I received a confirmation that the lost suitcase had arrived at the Hyderabad airport. But the bag reached us in the late afternoon hours of Thursday, 14th June 2012. Upon opening the bag we were shocked not to find our Sony handycam (which had all our memories of vacation) and the jewellery bag (containing precious and semi-precious jewellery items along with many cosmetics and accessories). It took countless emails, phone calls and tweets from our end, and a month of time for Jet Airways to finally tell us that the bag, which as per their information weighed 8 kg at Chicago, never went through customs at the Mumbai airport and upon reaching the Hyderabad airport weighed 7 kg. This observation itself is a proof about our lost items. As per their own policy the lost and found bag did not reach us with plastic wrap. Another proof for theft of items.
