He was thrown out of his society in Yari road as many girls use to come to his rented apt. Again in the other society he shifted and girls started coming his complain had again gone to the secretary. Santosh Walunj sweet talks women into falling in love with him, then dumps them after cheating them of their money and valuables.
Navi Mumbai police are searching for a man who has conned at least three women of lakhs of rupees after enticing them into relationships. The police suspect Santosh Walunj, 40, to be a real estate agent who posed as a powerful government official while luring the women. While so far the police have received three complaints, they suspect Walunj may have conned at least eight more women.
Walunj's modus operandi is simple: identify lonely women and those who are unhappy in their marriages, impress them during the first meeting and, once he had gained their trust, ask them to marry him or move in with him. Then, he would start asking them for money on one pretext or the other. The stories all had a common end, too: Once he knew there was no more money to be extracted, he turned abusive, before finally walking out on the women.
The case came to light after one of the women decided to hunt him down. She first tracked down one of Walunj's friends whom she had often met. When she confronted him, the friend put her in touch with another woman who he said had faced the same fate. After the two women came together, they started looking for others who had fallen for Walunj's charm. Till now they have managed to find one more woman. Two of these three women had left their husbands to be with Walunj. The police suspect there could be at least eight more such cases.
The main complainant in the case, a 29-year-old unmarried beautician from Navi Mumbai, first met Walunj in June 2012.
"I was on my way to meet a client when he bumped into me and asked me for directions, " said the woman in her statement to the police. "He said he was a customs officer. After I gave him the directions, he asked me if he could have my mobile number. I first hesitated. But he looked like a gentleman and was very polite. So I didn't see any harm in giving my number."
Walunj then called her one day and they spoke for some time. Soon, they started talking several times during the day and were on their way to becoming good friends. He then started visiting the woman, who lived alone, at her home. By August he had moved in with her.
"He promised to marry me and we got into a relationship, " said the woman. "In September 2012, he said he needed money. When I hesitated, he hit me and forced me to sign a blank cheque and withdrew Rs 3.5 lakh from my account. He also took away my gold bangles worth Rs 20, 000. One day in March this year, he stopped coming home. When I tried calling him, his number was out of service. I haven't seen him since."
In the second case, Walunj used what the police suspect could be his real persona. He met the woman, in her mid-30s and separated from her husband, as an estate agent who could help her sell her Panvel flat.
Soon, they were seeing a lot of each other. Before long, he had moved into her Khoparkhairne flat.
"Then one day, he told me he met with an accident and that the other car involved was that of a politician, " said the woman in her statement. "He said the politician threatened to have him killed if he did not pay Rs 4 lakh. I gave him the money."
When she later asked about the money, he started beating her up. A few days later, he stopped coming home. And his mobile number was out-of-service.
"He would drive around in a Honda Accord and maintain a high profile, " said the woman. "He was a smooth talker. He would somehow get to know the minutest of personal details about people and remember them. I think that is how people begin to trust him... because he made them feel special. The same happened to me, too. He even convinced me to sell my flat for Rs 20 lakh. And he took away all that money right from under my nose."
The third woman, also married, divorced her Dubai-based husband after Walunj came into her life. He met her at a social event and said he was a CID officer investigating a high-profile case. Once her divorce came through, they got married in a simple civil ceremony. Soon, he sold her car and belongings, saying he needed the money urgently. He even withdrew Rs 4 lakh from her account. And once he knew she had no more money left, he started torturing her. A few days later, he left her.
But this woman is the only one to have met his family, which lives in Khandeshwar in Navi Mumbai. Based on the information she provided, the police arrested Walunj's father and brother on Monday.
Suspecting Walunj may have used other names, the police have also alerted other police stations in Navi Mumbai to see if there are similar cases there. By Monday night, they had found that a cheating case has been filed against him in the Panvel police station.
"We have registered a case of rape, cheating and dowry harassment against Walunj, " said TB Kane, police inspector, Kamothe. "We have also arrested his father and brother as the third woman has filed dowry harassment charges against them. We suspect the accused has conned several other women. We have launched a search to nab him at the earliest."

I have just been a mute spectator so far and breaking my silence as my photographs have been used by sop.kh_an, who claims to know me and Tanweer Ehsan from 20 years. Attached are copies of multiple marriage certificates of Tanweer Ehsan. sop.kh_an you may have known about two marriages this is a proof for others awareness.
It is sad that I did not realize my photograph will gain popularity else I would have posed with the right costumes and a glass of beer in my hand to complete the picture.
