I live in locality called as Ganesh Nagar, which is in Guindy a suburb of Chennai. A TASMAC retail outlet has been running in Nethaji Street of Ganesh Nagar (shop no.692) for several years and I am fighting for the past few years to shift the outlet to any commercial place. The present place is a residential locality and has schools, temples and even a noon meal centre run by the state Government which is hardly 50 Mtrs from the outlet. Repeated complaints to the authorities have fallen on deaf ears and the Govenment is looking into the revenue generation from the shop alone. There is huge hardship and inconvenience to the residents of the locality because of the liquor shop. People cannot walk the streets after nightfall for fear of drunkards and rowdy elements. Women are most inconvenienced and the State CM herself being a woman it was expected that she would pass orders to re site the retail shop to a commercial locality, but the online petition has been rejected stating that the shop is functioning as per retail vending rules, much to the hardship and the suffering of the people of the locality. The person who runs the bar is the local MLA which adds to our woes. Was this information helpful? |
