[Resolved]  Hyundai — i10 ECM Problem

Address: Kottayam, Kerala

I have a hyundai i10 sports 2010 September model car [KL 3 T 5496] and its a well maintained and done only 20k kilometers in 3 years. But on last sunday [November 24, 2013] car suddenly shows some missing while running and suddenly stopped and it didn't start after that. Hyundai road side assistance service came for our rescue but after long 2.30 -- 3 hour checkup they found that problem is with ECM [electronic control module]. I came to know that ECM problem is a common problem on i10 after 20k kilometers from internet. Mechanic who checked the car also agrees that, ECM problem is a common problem and he personally faced same problem on his friend's car. I just saw another complaint against same problem. http://www.consumercomplaints.in/complaints/hyundai-ecm-complaint-c846826.html . Seems like its a common problem and I would like to replace ECM at free of cost. [Right now Hyunadi asks for 39, 000+Labour charge+Toying charge]

I bought i10 magna 1.2 on July 2010 and the car has done 65000 Kms. I faced regular starting issues where the car starts sometime and doesn't start sometime. Towed the car but in workshop it started and they scanned ECM but couldn't find anything wrong. But asked me to replace the battery but I said it's only 3 yr old and later told me it's okay. After a similar issue once again went to service the 2nd time and mechanic drove 20kms but my good/bad luck the car didn't stop even one time. For 3rd time this week it stopped and Hyundai roadside assistance promptly showed up checked and suspected ECM and workshop later confirmed the same.

IMPORTANT : While Hyundai asked 40000 Rs for replacing ECM, I checked alternatives and found a guy to repair ECM. He told me.that this problem is highly prevalent in i10 and i20 over other cars because normally over component soldering there is epoxy to withstand vibrations which is absent in i10 and i20. He said he will fix and let me know in 2 days and said charges will be 4000 Rs. Let's see if it works and I will keep u posted.

Don't spend 40000 on new ECM I suggest to try fixing ECM(which is a PCB and components just similar to the one in our mobile/computers).

Hello Anoop,

Did you gone to consumer court, I had the same problem with My i10 purchased on Aug 2010. Started starting trouble on 15000 km in Nov 2013
I have replaced the ECM unit to fix the problem, costed me 39000 for the component. I can see that there are many i10 sports have reported the same problem, So worried if that was loss of money for me

Please advice
Thanks
Vivek
Hey Vivek,

I didn't go to consumer court due to time constrains as I work out side India. But I would suggest some one goes to consumer court for this issue and gets some reasonable compensation.

Thanks
Anoop
I also have the same problem with i10 2012 model and it has only covered 9039 km. Though it is facing the same problem (ECM not working).Last night I turned my car off myself and The next morning I tried to start but it failed to start. The car even got fully serviced 20 days ago.
I want it to get replaced for free.
Kindly take serious action or I will directly go to consumer court For sure.
Because useless expense of RS.40, 000 on RS.4, 50, 000 can't be bearable.

Sir, how did you resolve your issue? I am facing the issue now. Like us there are many.
I have purchased my i10 in June 2013 . It has done
Only 9K. Just two days back I noticed the power steering was hard. Taken it to D.SC. Hyundai Virugambakkam Chennai. They diagnosed it as ECM failure and to be replaced a cost of ₹.10000/. Plus labour. I was really taken aback. How to approach this problem.
I also faced the same issue. Starting problem. Just for testing OK ECU was put in the car by dealer and car found OK. Defect is confirm with existing ECM (ECU). Dealer quoted ECM price 39, 000 Rs.
I have finding some source if any one can repair my ECM.

I also have the same problem with i20 2010 model and it has only covered
39000 km. Couple of days dated ( 24/11/16) I parked the vehicle it didn't start up on (29/11/16) given it for service at Kun Hyundai Service center, Ambattur Industrial Estate Chennai . Today I got a heart breaking statement saying ECM might have a problem :-(. Fingers Crossed, I should not face this problem. If i face this then please help me also in the loop to get replaced for free of cost.

I have an I20 Asta 2010 - working very well. Driven 75000 KMs. On last Friday, I got serviced along with AC coil change and that costed me about 14000/- later on next when I was driving, the car miss fires and stooped on the road. Towed the car to garage. On investigation, the kun Hyundai called me us and says my ECM is having problem and needs to be replaced at 38, 000/- that is more than 10% of deprecated cost of the car.

I am seriously suspecting that all these years the car is working fine and doubt that something went wrong during the service and it is a result of that. In India, we do really have an qualified service personnel and all the private authorized service center si minting money from common man.

any suggestion and advice how take head on with service center or Hyundai. If you have any thought and experience, please feel free to respond.

I also have the same problem with i10 2009 model and it has only covered 30000 km. Though it is facing the same problem (ECM not working). it will cost around RS.40, 000 on RS.4, 50, 000 can't be bearable..
Very bad experience with i10. First ESM failed stearing jam. Now key icon not showing. Car fail to star. Mechanic said ECM not working. Why I advise to buy Hyundai vehicle ?
I also have same problem with i10 2015 model, AP31CS9516, (I didn't miss any periodical maintenance) initially I had a problem with steering crackling sound in slow speed turns, I was advised to replace the steering motor, but there is no spare available with them after 2 weeks they informed me to replace the spare, so yesterday I have given my car in showroom and today I was informed there is no issue with steering motor, ECM to be repaired or replaced. Replacement cost rs50000 & repair cost is around rs 15000 too high.

Hi Sir, Is your issue resolved to your satisfaction? Kindly share as to how you resoled the issue. I am facing the issue now and I received the same quote and not happy with it.
I just wrote to Hyundai at [email protected] detailing my problem related to ECU. I request all to write to Hyundai and raise the concern. They should hear a loud voice about this issue that cannot be appreciated by anyone in India.
This ECM issue in i10 esp in models 2009 to 2012 is rampant. All said, has anyone reached out to Hyundai? Lets collectively complain and ask them to recall all such models and replace/rectify ECM free of cost.
