I have a domestic LPG connection (Consumer No. 665656) of Indane Gas from South Delhi Enterprises, Basrurkar Market, Moti Bagh, New Delhi. I booked the cylinder/ refill three times and everytime the booking was cancelled without any reasons. Finally I was able to speak to reps at the Dealer office and I got the delivery on 26 Nov 13. I had heard about some recent observations by our neighbors in our society that the delivery boys of various dealerships have been seen siphoning off some gas from standard domestic cylinders (14.2 kgs) into smaller non-standard cylinders before giving delivery to consumers. If any alert consumer asked to show the weight, delivery boy would make some excuse, take the cylinder back and bring another cylinder. So I asked the delivery boy to weigh the cylinder. After some hesitation, he brought a spring balance and showed the total weight of cylinder to be 29 kgs. He managed to convince me that standard weight of gas is 14 kgs and empty cylinder is 15 kgs. I was so delighted to have achieved an impossible task of checking the weight in first attempt. However, this sense of achievement was short lived.
I narrated the story to my husband when he returned from office. As usual (men will be men) he was not impressed. He brought out the Digital Weighing Scale and found the cylinder weight to be only 27.5 kgs. He carefully examined the cylinder and found that printed weight on cylinder was tempered with using white paint. The cylinder weight was changed from 16.0 kgs to 15.0 kgs and Gross weight from 30.2 kgs to 29.2 kgs. Further the weighing scale carried by delivery boy was reading 1.5 kgs more than actual weight. I was almost into depression.
Next day was spent trying to contact the dealer office without any success. Those who are not willing to believe may try[protected]/26113646. I contacted the toll free helpline[protected] three times attended by different people and all of them refused to take the complaint. Instead they asked me why I was complaining after receiving the cylinder. I tried to explain that even if I had returned the cylinder, I would have no proof to complaint.
I hope that my bad experience would enlighten many housewives who are getting cheated in similar ways and throwing their hard earned money to these cheaters.
I also hope that Indane Officials will take a note of this and initiate disciplinary/ corrective action against the defaulters.
"Hope floats"
