We went to malabar in bangalore commercial street in nov. We decided to buy a necklace by exchanging jewelry we had. They gave us an approximation value for the jewelry for rs. 4, 65, 000 and after discussing the cost of the jewelry we were buying they agreed for us to pay rs. 16, 000.
So we agreed. They then took us to some dingy room on the top floor to supposedly melt the jewelry and get the exact gold weight. After melting they then tell us the value is rs. 4, 30, 000. Difference of rs. 35, 000 and asked us to pay the additional rs. 35, 000. We already had the jewelry valued at rs. 4, 75, 000 the same day at a neighboring jewelry store and instead decided on buying this necklace with a loss of rs.10, 000 only because we liked the necklace.
When asked to give the paper they had written the approximate amount on for rs.4, 65, 000. They refused to produce the paper and tore it up in front o[censored]s. Our jewelry was blackened and broken not by a jeweler. So we stand to lose not just rs. 30, 000 but our valuable jewelry which is worth rs. 4, 75, 000.
After we had a heated discussion during which it came down to having to snatch the paper that the sales clerk was tearing up and they are refusing to give anything written by them so we could atleast file a case where we could state that once given an approximation the difference cannot be in the range of rs. 35, 000. Customer must be told specifically of such a difference which if we were told we would never agree to that. They did not want to give the paper slip which they quoted for burned jewelry at rs. 4, 30, 000. They want to give us nothing.
We made some calls to my dad who spoke to the commissioner and the inspector at commercial street and decided to go to the police station right away and recorded all the discussion to post on youtube.
After overhearing that all the sales clerks who had pounced on us ladies (We were three ladies my mom and my sister) then backed off and they agreed to give us the new necklace for the amount they agreed by us paying rs. 16, 000 since the jewelry that we were returning was worth 4, 65, 000. Total selling price of rs. 4, 65, 000 + 16, 000 = 4, 76, 000.
Our entire day of shopping together turned out to the worst experience.
They are such crooks. They seem to be regularly scamming people. They destroy your jewelry and put you in a position where one has no choice but to pay what they ask. They don’t have the decency to behave with ladies.
We walked out with a bill value for the jewelry purchases for lesser than what we paid. Their jewelry is most likely not worth what we paid for it. Gold and the uncut diamonds in the necklace is not 916 gold and will not have value at all.
Our loss but people should voice their complaints and stand together against injustice like this.
Only with the support of many little people will we be able to bring justice to all. Instead people often walk away and decide its someone else problem. Unfortunately if we indians continue to always think that problems of other people is theirs and never stand together on issues that are unjust... There will always be scams and crooks disguised in suits to look like a man behaving like the scum they came from.
Hope we can bring some justice. Atleast people should be aware and if they want good value for their money to not shop at malabar scam gold.
