I'm writing this mail to share with you my hectic and an unprofessional experience with Uber, due to which I missed my flights and it costed me time, money, additional expense and an important meeting which was irrevocable.
I had my flight on 13th March 2022, at 5:55 PM for which I took an Uber. The driver's name Madan. He reached my house location precisely on time. We left immediately. However, he was extremely engrossed on a phone call on his cell constantly and kept on doing other miscellaneous work which driving the cab due to which he wasn't driving even at a nominal speed. I very politely requested him for about 5-6 times to please drive faster and to not be on his cell phone since I would thereby get late to catch my flight. He constantly ignored all my requests and said one statement "Apko jaldi nikalna chaiye tha, mujhe phone pe kaam hai". I left at a time which was very convenient for me to catch my flight had it been any other taxi driver but him.
On probably my 7 request, he parked the car to the side and said in hindi ofcourse, "i won't go do whatever you want" and continued to be on his cellphone. He left the car and was on the call. Meanwhile I was crying to him requesting him to take me since I didn't have any time to waste waiting for an other ride. He refused extremely harshly. Mind you, I am an asthmatic, I cannot explain to you the anxiety I experienced that very second, one, because the meeting I was to attend in Patna was extremely important for my career and two, I spent approximately Rs. 11, 000 to and fro Rs. 4500 (next day return) on my air tickets that are non-refundable.
I was unable to cancel my ride due to the low internet connection probably at the hault, I requested him crying to atleast cancel my ride so I can book another Uber. He quote on quote said "khud karo karna hai toh, mei nai karunga", knowing that I was helpless and the money would cut from my pocket and not his. I have to mention, how heartless must a person have to be to put someone through this stress for his ego? And as a consumer, how unfair and unprofessional is this to me?
In that terror and constant pressure, I managed to cancel the ongoing ride and booked me an other Uber, to my disappointment, be canceled my ride even before reaching the destination on knowing on call that I'm headed to the airport. Then I booked an other Uber, which took more than 10 mins to reach my location. Now in all this chaos I've wasted enough time to catch my flight. The 3rd Uber driver took me to the airport as fast as he could, but despite that I missed my flight. And this, only at the sole fault of your Uber driver.
My irrevocable meeting got canceled for which i suffered, I had to book a new flight for the next day, again two and fro which costed me Rs. 4000. I got no compensation from the airline cause it was no fault of theirs but yours for getting me delayed. I had to book myself myself a hotel for the night next to the airport for my next day flight and with this chaos I had to stress out for 7 hours at the airport trying to figure out a solution on my loss.
It doesn't end here, ever since I've placed my complaint regarding the Driver on Uber, my Uber fair has tripled. I took an Uber post the chaos at the airport for my hotel, at Aerocity, which showed my approximately Rs. 100 around, on reaching the location it conveniently became Rs. 500 approximately, which I was forced to pay. Again next morning I took an Uber to the airport from Aerocity, it showed me Rs. 118 initially and on reaching the location I was charged Rs. 500 (approximately) for a 10 minute drive? This is extremely unfair as I have incurred unreasonable expense because of your esteemed company which I held at a very high regard, but I'm so disappointed. I'm left with no choice but to uninstall your app.
I tagged @Uber and @UberIndia on Instagram regarding the same on the very day and received no response. I messaged on these verified id's, the matter that very moment, it's been 2 days and I've received no response at all.
As an Advocate, I'm hereby attaching all the screenshots and proofs of the same and it's my obligation to let you know that I intend to take this matter extremely seriously. I am expecting all the reimbursements including my flight money (to and fro), my hotel money, my cab expense and the emotional stress caused to me as an additional.
With this official mail, I am giving you a time of two days for a resolution of the same. If not, I will take this matter to the Consumer Forum at the earliest.
