I had suddenly developed vertical lines on the screen of my Mac book Pro Serial No .C02V9BZJHV2L on 17th Oct 2018 . As it was under warranty till Nov 7th 2018, I called up their help line number and the lady Sania was courteous enough to guide me through the process and then suggested I go to the nearest Apple service center which happened to be at Vasant Square mall, Vasant Kunj.
The Service advisor checked and stated that it was a screen pressure error which seemed to have been damaged by me and would not be covered under warranty and would have to pay approximately 45000 plus GST which which seemed an absurd amount . I explained to the staff that I had not deliberately done anything and it happened when i opened my laptop next. However he kept looking at possible reasons suggesting I put something heavy or inserted something between the keyboard which resulted in the damage. This upset me and I said I wanted to speak to someone senior and he then guided me to the same lady on the phone who said she would ask him to examine and give his report and I would have to leave the laptop at the shop.
The advisor examined and then stated since there is a dent on the body it was reason to cause the screen damage . I clearly told him the dent had been since last six months back as had dropped the laptop but it had not affected the machinery and thus had not bothered complaining earlier. How can it effect the screen after six months for which he just shrugged and asked me to leave the laptop.
I got no revert from them for the next few days and on 22nd Oct went to check and they stated that I would have to pay for the screen. I refused to pay the huge amount and picked up my laptop and left. I then again made a complaint with Apple In Bangalore and they sent a mail to bring it to the service center and would have the Location in charge look at it. When I went there it seemed the location in charge was on leave and he happened to be the same person who had checked my laptop and insisted that I pay. The staff made me speak to him and he said that they are still waiting for a revert on his report which he had sent and he had no idea about my being asked to come there.
Frustrated I again went and had a chat with their staff in US complaining and she mentioned that as the case is being handled by India she will ask them to fix a call at 1300hrs the next day. However due to some connection issue could not receive the call and received a message from them. I asked them to call me back any time but no one responded. Now I have sent 2 emails but they are not even acknowledging the same.
I have a feeling all this was being done to circumvent having to change my screen under warranty due to having suspicion that it was mishandled and have now washed their hands off as now the warranty is no longer valid. Was this information helpful? |
