[Resolved]  KANCHI KAMAKOTI CHILD TRUST HOSPITAL NEONATAL WARD — Lack of good doctors

Kanchi Kamakoti Child Trust Hospital Neonatal Ward for Newborns (NICU) : Many leading doctors have left the department over a span of 4-5 years, at least 8 senior doctors / HODs left. So, now diagnosis, patient care, nature of treatment all are affected. My niece was there for 25 days in NICU and was misdiagnosed to have brainfever and urinary infection, and many strong antibiotics were given. Later we found it be dehydration fever. We also observed that many patients stayed for long in the NICU, but later got opinions from other hospitals like Soorya, Mehta, Ramachandra etc where diagnosis or treatment changed and babies got better. It is said that frequent change of senior doctors in NICU has affected care there. I was reminded of this when I read about how reputation of AIIMS has been affected by attrition there. It is sad that Child Trust neonatal ward, formerly a place of excellence is affected thus.

I found that the hospital is good, started with noble intention, based on recent visit. The founder satrted it to help poor children, and the cause makes it stand.

Juliet, good for your colleague's kid. Sorry and condolences to Mr Sreedhar. My niece was treated for urinary infection at KKCTH, but then we learnt later that in a 1 week old baby, they must take urine directly from bladder to call it infection, and not from glove.

We think of doctors as God. but I am also surprised by the harsh and venomous nature of replies by hospital staff, in the names of true human, agogarjun etc. Makes me wonder about the type of people working there! Why can't they use the comments to improve their services instead?
Can KKCTH Chairman say that what "true human" says is correct legally?
Are doctors who don't send cases to KKCTH drunkars/ smokers / womanizers etc,
INDIA CONSUMER COMPLAINTS:

Patients have a right to post their grievences about institutions, wrong diagnosis and treatment, lack of proper communication from hospital staff etc. These grievences must be answered or denied PROFESSIONALLY, in response to specific events.

Personal defamatory comments that are false and malicious must be avoided. If not, are there legal provisions for defamatory action?

Is "true human " speaking on behalf of KKCTH management?

The whole city knows that DOZENS OF REPUTED EXPERT FAMOUS DOCTORS left a hospital as they were unable to get along with a small group. Also, practitioners have a right to recommend to their patients any hospital or doctor they prefer without fear of such comments.
True Human,

It might be good not to indulge in such personal attacks both on doctors who left KKCTH, as well as those who send patients elsewhere.

If specific surgical cases operated by specific doctors etc are reported, and exact details of why and how the doctors left KKCTH are described by them it may not be good for you.
I took my friend from Orissa to Child Trust Hospital as I heard about it a lot, but was also disappointed. Fees was collected first to see the senior consultant, but only junior doctor saw baby, Then next day when we went to show the reports of the tests, again fees was collected.

Also, no personal touch, as when I went third time, different junior doctor saw the baby..

I do not feel it is cheaper than corporate hospitals, but lacks personal touch and attention. for 2nd visit, just to show tests, there is fees
Hi Sathya,
Fully sympathize with you, I was planning to choose Barani Hospital, but will be careful.

Painless surgery is what we expect Imagine how it will be to sream during surgery. But how can a doctor from a reputed hospital find your story amusing instead of sympathizing?
I work with a consumer forum NGO and I agree with Dr Yadav that websites should be used constructively for feedback and improvement.

Also, it will be good if steps are taken by all hospitals to prevent infections in hospitals, as new delhi metallobetalactamse etc arise in hospitals.

Also, mistakes in diagnosis can happen anywhere and doctors must learn from that.

Dr Ramakrishnan the founder of KKCTH, no more now, was famous for his philanthropy. His spirit was great I have heard.

It will be good if people like him are more nowadays.
For children to recover, please follow all this, regardless of hospitals:

eat organic foods, no fast/ junk food to kids, no fried chips etc

Daily physical activity or sports, less TV, less playstation. Let kids paly running, hide-seek what they like; don't force tennis etc

Less criticism, more encouragement of our kids, no comparison with first-rankers

No pressure to perform

Complete love of God, faith in him, no jealousy or anger or pride or revenge or hate, humble enough to ask for forgiveness from him and all. God will wipe your karmas, sins if you genuinely regret your mistakes.

positive thinking by parents in times of crisis, no crying unnecessarily

less medicines!!
Whatever wrong diagnosis etc, a hospital run in the name of Goddess Kamakshi must flourish well.

Let God bless all those working for poor children and their families. May the families of those who have any noble thoughts for needy kids flourish; may their offspring have great health and long lives, and may God forgive those who harm them.

This is because hospital is in Godess Kamakshi name, and more good things done. Let God help doctors there make only correct diagnosis and treatment in future so that no child suffers.

Let doctors pray and then treat, so that the kids get well.

My secretary's son was adnitted in newborn ward of Child Trust in 2009, not cried at all at birth with fits, , breathing problem, no urine.

After 1 lakh expenditure from loans and donations, baby saved

THEY WERE NOT GIVEN A HINT THAT SUCH CHILDREN WILL BE MENTAL AND HANDICAPPED IN FUTURE WITH LIFELONG SUFFERING.

Other doctors in the city, at least half a dozen of them, later told that this risk should have been predicted at birth, and explained to the family . They said the usual practice about experienced doctors is to tell all this within a few days in the condition called birth asphyxia and premature. This must ethically be done, even if parents do not ask about it, as they may not know. Another baby adnitted at that time, for very small size, has same problem, even they were not explained at birth.

We expect doctors to be ethical and well updated.
i am one of the persons who recommended baby quoted by julietr to soorya hospital/ dr deepa, where they diagnosed the problem as vascular ring within 2 days of admission. i think it is important for hospitals to have good doctors rather than more technology. my experience with dr v viswanathan neurologist and dr kalyani of newborn ward of child trust has not been good as a referring doctor, due to their comments.

the comments about a government hospital doctor/ asst professor is shocking to me, i think asst professors of govt hospitals should all object collectively and get an apology from true human (of child trust) for such comments, and that child trust chairman must intervene.
on mahashivratri, let us pray for the kanchi kamakoti children's hopsital, its doctors and all patients there. Service to poor kids is service to God.
I do not about competence or clinical skills of Dr Yadav, but he seems a nice person. Also, even though one family is said to have caused many persons to leave the hospital, they do lot of charity work, and have helped many doctors grow too, but I do not know about their clinical competence. Similarly, all said and done, KKCTH helped growth of many doctors early in their career, and helped save many lives, so God help it
TO DR RAHUL YADAV MY CHILD BABY OF BENAZIR WAS ADMITTED B'COZ MECONIUM ASPIRATION .BABY WAS GUD @TIME OF DISCHARGE, STILL HE IS HAVING INFECTION ON LUNGS& CHEST. IF AGAIN I COME 2 THE HOSPITAL U'LL BE NOT THERE EACH & EVRY DAY UR ASSISTANT DR WILL BE THERE. EVERY DAY THE DRS WILL B CHANGING SO 2 EACH AND EVERY DAY I'SHD KEEP ON SAYING THE HISTORY OF MY CHILD I DONNO Y U'LL PPL KEEP ON CHANGING THE DRS EVERYDAY ESPECIALLY IN THE OUT PATIENT WARD.WE WUD LIKE TO SEE THE DR WHO TREATED OUR BABY 1ST NOT THE NEW ONE THAT 2 IT W'LL B LIKE FISH MARKET ALL THE DRS INSIDE ONE ROOM TREATING MORE THAN 1 CHILD
The service is very poor in KKCTH! Poor hygiene and irresponsible staff members makes this place very degrading. My daughter was in the ICU for an asthma attack, and I personally saw the way medcines for which we pay for were looted and stored in the refrigerator, and the callousness of the nurses there. During my stay there I overheard a nurse talking over the phone to her friend about how miserable her job is, and what a 'kevalama' profession she is in. What a disgrace! The job of a nurse is the highest level of service, and because of such sisters, the hospital's reputation is gone. On another instance, when a patient's attendee was expressing her concern about the baby's IV line, she was answered back rudely by a nurse whether she had studied nursing to ask questions. Please be a little more hospitable and show humanity especially when you are in such a divine profession. The general ward is more like a chatharam, and the toilets are dirty and smelly. Is this a way a children's hospitals should be maintained. One will get more sick just being there. In the ICU, I saw the duty doctor casually browsing facebook!! This hospital is poor in every regards of concern.
It is true diagnosis and treatment are horrible at KKCTH now. On 15th june 2011, our friend kid A was admitted for jaundice in KKCTH NICU and treated as a condition called coagulopathy, where they said a test called PTT was 56 seconds and too high, as normal is 35seconds. They gave blood product to the baby. The family doctor later told that for indirect jaundice such tests are not needed and gave the choice of going to Dr Deepa at Sooriya or to Dr Sarala at Mehta. Dr Deepa showed 2 text books of newborn and proved that for babies upto 6 months of age, PTT will be upto 45 to 55 seconds, and this need not be treated if the baby did not bleed. The same was confirmed by DR Sarala of Mehta, and famous blood specailist Dr Revathi Raj of Apollo.. It is upsetting that blood product was unnecessarliy given due to lack of knowlede at KKCTH.
Dr Yadav is a decent person . i dont know his knowledge. but medicine is noble profession, all doctors must realize that rather than have ego, they must pray for and help all patients, ask for love and forgiveness from God. Ella pugazhum iraivanuke.
Hi this is alamelu from chennai.I delivered a girl kid on 12 th dec 1997 in erode . i forgot the hospital name. Then many problems arises and then baby was taken to Coimbatore GKNMH Kuppusamy hospital. There she was tested and told she is going to pass her life as a mentally retarded kid.Now she is 13+ . Really we are suffering a lot with my daughter.Unable to register a complaint. The reason was only with Dr.Kannagi of Pollachi as there only i got my pre delivery check up regularly. She didnot advised us to take the scan till my 8 th month. Then also after coming to my native for delivery got admitted in the hospital back to the church in Erode .Cant remember the clinic and doctors name. Her mother was also a doctor in pollachi.Really we are in miserable condition now as financially we are in backward level. We are unable to do for her as this is the time of maturity. How to manage her really dont know. The cause for this are the two doctors one kannagi and one in Erode.Really we are waiting for her death as many doctors told no improvements will be till her death.Expense is also going beyond our limit really dont know what to do ...
