I woke up below email and was excited assuming that my CV was short listed for a round of interview at none other than Indigo Airlines. However, I always make sure that I check the sender’s email id and “@indigocampushr.in sounded official. The sceptic in me (when it comes to job offers) still wasn’t confirmed, so I called and spoke with a Mr. Suresh Jain who claimed that he is the Manager, HR. I asked him straight-up about the authenticity, and that seemed to throw him off a little. He said, “You’re an educated individual. You should check the email id, it’s from indigo. Even if it’s fake, why would anybody admit to it?”.
This raised a red flag, but I still naively thought that maybe I’m wrong.
So I proceeded and called him back to ask for the account details (because the attached letter stated that the person needs to call to get the account details). He told me that he was busy, and that he’ll give me a call back and in the meantime, I should send him the following details:
My name, my father’s name, application id/code, address, which I did after hanging up. In the meantime, I tried looking him up on LinkedIn, and I didn’t find anything (I always make sure that I cross check HR executives pertaining to that company on LinkedIn for more authenticity).
When he called me back, he gave me the account details as followed:
Union Bank
Account no.: xxxxxxxxxxxxx95
IFSC: UBINxxxxxxxx
In the name of: Indigo Accounts (in the letter states “Indigo Accounts Team”).
He asked me the mode of payment, and I told him I’ll probably do an IMPS. He went to inform me that I can even do payment via PayTM (which of course I thought was weird).
So, I log in to my mobile banking application, and begin adding him as a payee. After entering the IFSC, it reflected that that particular bank branch was in Kotdwara. A quick Google search showed that it’s a small town in Pauri Garhwal district o[censored]ttarakhand.
I literally rolled on the floor and laughed, because I actually tried imagining Indigo Airlines based out of Garhwal, Uttarakhand. An airline, whose head office/Corporate office is based in Gurugram, has bank transactions based in Uttarakhand. LOL!
