Respected sir,
This is to inform regarding the inhumane guidelines of fortis hospital mohali with respect to blood sampling. My father dr sudhir kumar dhir fortis id no 657232, is a hemodialysis patient who has been getting dialysis from fortis hospital mohali since february 2017. He is registered with pgimer chandigarh for renal transplant for which hcv rna quantitative test needs to be done every 6 months. The cost of the test by srl diagnostics fortis is rs. 4500/- while by srl diagnostics chandigarh is rs 1800/-. However my primary concern is regarding blood wastage and non allowance of sampling for testing elsewhere. On 13/3/2020 at 1 pm after drawing the pre dialysis sample in the dialysis room, upon asking for the sample the staff told that they are directed not to allow any sample for testing by outside lab and within minutes they discarded the precious sample inspite of the fact that the test wasnt prescribed by fortis hospital and was required by pgimer.
The issue is the inhumane non-empathetic attitude of the staff who without taking permission from my father ruthlessly discarded the most precious resource on the planet ie human blood. As a dialysis patient just for building the hemoglobin by 1 gm my father has to take erythropoetin injections in the stomach every week that itself costs rs 3000 per injection per week and take iron capsules everyday to compensate for the blood loss during 4 hour dialysis twice a week. I myself an md transfusion medicine, know how precious this source becomes in times of need as a life saving drug which the staff of fortis discarded without paying heed to the importance of every drop of blood. I can't imaging how many units of blood might be wasted in this manner everyday. I brought the issue to notice of medical superintendent of fortis via telephonic conversation who promised a swift response but all in vain. Now even if they offer to redraw the sample it was of no use as heparin mixed during dialysis interferes with the test. Kindly look into the matter so that such an incidence doesnt happen in future with any of the opd or daycare patients and patients are saved from further physical, mental and financial harassment at the hands of health care hospitals.
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely
Dr abhay dhir
