My wife was admitted to Fortis hospital on 10th March 2022 due to certain complications in her pregnancy. The doctor advised for medico termination and the necessary procedure was performed within the labour room itself. The estimate was also prepared on the basis of the same. After the procedure doctor advised for vaccum suction and evacuation procedure which was to be done in the OT for which again estimate was given on general ward basis. After the complete process was done, doctor conveyed that they will need to keep my wife under review and accordingly she will need to be shifted to a room. At this point after all the procedure was done and completed and after the doctor conveyed that they will keep my wife for a day to observe, I opted for a single room.
However, to my surpise the next day (on 11th march 2022) during the bill, the charges for the procedures that were carried out in the labour room and OT were increased and levied basis a revised estimate that was given to me when after completing of the procedures my wife was to be shifted to a room and at that point i chose a single roomI. I had no clue that the charges for procedure that have alreadybeen conducted as per the old estimate have also been increased.
To the management of fortis hospital, i am very curious to understand how charges for any surgery/ procedure can be different on the basis of the room type that I chose for the stay of the patient? I understand that room charges are different basis the type of room (twin sharing/ single/ generalward etc.), but why and how shall it change the charges for any procedure .. means of charges of any procedure are Rs. X for an estimate taken for general ward, then how can charges for the same procedure be Rs. X+ 10 if the room type is single room?
Not only does the procedure charges change, in fact other charges like OT charges, doctor visit etc. also changes.. i find it very illogical and against the norms of treating customers fairly..
I tried to speak with the team at the IPD desk and the biiling counter, but they denied stating that charges were basis the room type that i selected at the end. This has resulted into extra charges been levied and collected from me to the tune of Rs.10000- Rs.12000 Was this information helpful? |
